First game of the Chicago Challenge. Even without Hummel the Boiler's are going to be very tough. They destroyed their first two opponents (which weren't very good IMO) and seem to get good contributions from everyone. Coach said it best in the lastest episode of Grizztalk, they want to win and are looking to win but they more importantly want to see how the team can handle certain situations that much stronger teams present.
It has been said before and I will continue to say it. Hitting the three ball is going to be key to staying close with these guys in order to give our guys the chance to pull an upset. Make them spread the floor a bit and give Kito and Will some space to operate in the paint. Looking forward to it, just too bad that its on Big Ten Network.com and not actual cable.

Definite agreement with Grizzfan that we will have to shoot well from deep to stay in this.
Kampe stated in his Grizz Talk segment that we don't do much game planning against teams like Purdue (focusing instead on ourselves), whereas we game plan intensely for teams like Ohio because those are games we need to win. Still not sure how I feel about that. I understand the importance of making sure not to lose the winnable games (like Ohio), but I feel like we need to get at least one win against a high major. It's not that I expect us to beat Big Ten teams (ok, maybe Michigan), but it's tough for fans to be completely satisfied with just playing the big boys to find out what we need to improve.

Nice find Germane! Will actually came into my work last night and we were talking a bit about this game and he seemed really pumped up and focused which is nice.
I agree that if the 3 ball is connecting then we will stand a chance.... I think that Kito will have a good game no matter what and that we need our guards to continue the way they did against Ohio.
If we can put this combo together and stay out of foul trouble.... we should have a good shot at beating Purdue.
I know i'll be watching the game on my laptop so i'm excited.... i'll be keeping an eye out for B&G if they show him lol

If we show up like the first half at WVU, this could turn into our ugliest loss of the entire year. If we look more like the 3 halves we've played since then, things will be much more interesting.

I know i'll be watching the game on my laptop so i'm excited.... i'll be keeping an eye out for B&G if they show him lol lol good luck! We'll be blending in with everyone in our black and gold t-shirts, and also sitting crazy high (or as high as one can get at Mackey). Should be a good experience. We were at Hinkle Fieldhouse today to take in a Butler game, and it was nothing short of majestic. The Grizzlies will need the same fight and determination that Butler squad has when we face the Boilermakers in order to at least keep the game close. Can't wait. Germane also posted this in the gameplan thread (thank you!), but wanted to give one more nod to my blog preview of this game, here. I would highly recommend OU students pay attention to their student section if possible. Very good stuff.

Have fun B&G. And Hinkle must've been nice, despite the lopsided outcome against Ball State. Looking forward to some interesting reflections on game atmosphere in the Gameplan.
I'll also be paying to watch the Purdue game online, since there's no other choice. Unfortunately, it looks like one of BTN's student productions, which means the production quality won't be that great. As usual, I'll be hoping that the audio from Mario and Neal matches up with the video.
The only positive about the broadcast situation: the BTN is re-showing the game on actual TV on Monday afternoon. That way, if Oakland pulls off the upset, we'll all have time to set our DVR's.

Over the years Kampe has stressed that these "big" games will help us come March. I agree, these games do help. The problem I have with these "big" games is not the fact we play them, but rather how we play them. This notion of "the big games will help come March" is the reason why we do not do well in Nov/Dec. I believe Kampe has labeled these "big" games as "practice." I believe that more attention needs to be given to these games. If you remember last year when OU made the big dance, everybody who only looks at the ticker for OU scores/updates all said the same thing....."How does OU accept to beat PITT. They got blown out against every big name school." I know when you play in the Summit League March is everything, but if OU wants to gain the "I only watch the ticker" fan (80% of people) they have to do well in these games. If you want to gain fans that live in Michigan....beat U of M and MSU. If you want more press coverage in Michigan....beat U of M and MSU. It is that simple. The average fan only cares about things like this (I know it's sad, but it's true).
