2:30 tuesday presser. they going to Southland.
Want to know why?
Because Oakland, NDSU, SDSU have treaded on their ego's
ORU are wimps for leaving, but whatever.
PS_ I stole this from Zooropa.....from SDSU. 2010/11 MBB Sagarin with ORU, Centenary, SUU = 68.94 = 18th 2010/11 MBB Sagarin without ORU, Centenary, SUU, with USD = 70.1 = 18th
Yawn, cya ORU no big loss, sorry your lil ego got knocked down with NDSU/SDSU and both getting better at baseball/basketball and setting attendence records, NOT to mention the absolute destruction of ORU in the following:
Baseball: Sdsu title ndsu getting better Mens bball : NDSU big dance, OAKLAND Sioux Falls attendence records womens bball : SDSU destroyed them Womens Gofl : NDSU's AMY ANDERSON Track : NDSU's teams both crushed Volleyball: NDSU crushed, Ncaa's twice Soccer: NDSU big dance.
Yep. ba bye

Honestly, how soon until Oakland takes a serious look at leaving? Losing Valpo and ORU seriously hurts the credibility of the conference. The Sagarin's are one thing, but putting butts in O'rena seats is another. Those are big attendance draws...much bigger than UMKC or NDSU or whoever. We won't be able to bring in Tennessee every year.

Lakesbison: I feel like you won't see that kind of mentality from most of the members of this forum. While the _DSU programs have been superb additions in just about every way, ORU has been a strong member of this league for a long-time. Losing them is a big loss that is not made up for simply by the burgeoning _DSU programs. Plus, as sectione4 notes, ORU is Oakland's biggest rival in the league. It's a sure thing that ORU will draw 4,000 fans. There is a chance that NDSU and SDSU could one day draw that well at Oakland games, but it takes time, something that ORU has had plenty of as a Summit member.
Look, I'm a big fan of NDSU and SDSU and think the league will be okay, but I'm not exactly sure we should be saying, "Good riddance."

100% agree. Saying good riddance to ORU is like the Big Ten saying "good riddance" to UM or OSU. They are a pillar of the conference, our main rival and an historical Summit/MidCon team. This conference will miss them, and I will miss the high-energy games they played at the O.

that's a big blow to the league... in the past few years we have sparked quite the rivalry with them. Best of luck to them in the new conference... it's a whole new ballgame. I agree that OU should consider looking at other conferences in the next year or so.... adding UND and USD will help a bit but if OU wants to continue to expand and gain national attention then looking to a bigger conference might be a viable option

As an ORU fan, I will also miss our games with Oakland. Ever since Pierre (sp?) Dukes' game-winner, you guys have been a great rival. Kampe is a class act and we wish you guys all the best in the Summit or wherever you are.

Though I appreciate lakebison's positive nature, the impact of this move cannot be understated.
It is not surprising considering that they are now the geographic outlier. I completely understand their logic regarding the move.
The only thing I have always had issue with is when people say that this is a move "up" in terms of basketball leagues. Granted, not everyone has made this point, but in terms of league quality this is a lateral move at best.
Conference RPI: 2010-2011: Summit 21 Southland: 29 2009-2010: Summit 23 Southland: 26 2008-2009: Summit 26 Southland: 19 2007-2008: Summit 22 Southland 20 2006-2007: Mid-Con 22 Southland: 26
Obviously there is a pretty fair balance of which league is the strongest.
This recent move only continues the rape of college athletics, which was begun by the major schools.
As I have said before, Oakland will be ok as long as they keep winning. In fact, the last three and the next five years could be seen as the most important in the history of the basketball program. Oakland must continue to build the program to a)build the rep of the Summit League and b.) make themselves attractive to another league, who will most likely be looking to expand

I'm not happy in any sense to see ORU leave and I wish them the best but this is not a good thing for the league. Perhaps our path to the NCAA's just got a bit easier but it's still far from a slam dunk and it certainly wouldn't help our seeding if the league takes a nose dive after this season.

Can't speak for all ORU fans, but I feel certain I speak for most when I say that there are a LOT of things we will miss anout playing in the Summit League, and our rivalry this past decade with Oakland in men's and women's basketball is near or at the top.
Nothing but respect for Greg Kampe, Beckie Francis, and their teams over the years - always come to play and conduct themselves like winners.
I hope the Summit League will continue to flourish - I think it will, it will just be different. I know it will be weird for a lot us to not have you guys on the schedule, and I know I personally will still follow the Golden Grizzlies efforts on the court - old habits die hard!
I sure hope our men's and women's basketball teams can continue to play each other, at least on occasion. Would hate to see the rivalries go by the wayside in what for us was strictly a financial and logistical move.
I'm sure we'll have more time to talk about the move as this season plays out. Let's hope it's a good one for ALL of us!
(except LakesBison - he's a tool.)
