Last I saw it’s not really that much. Split between all schools and the league. I

I don’t want this season to be over yet. This group means so much.

Slept on it. I am sad the team went toe to toe in the Round of 32 and didn’t get a chance to get a shot on that last play in regulation. Those situations are tailor made for Coach Kampe AND he had the team that could execute those. But that is basketball and life.
“We win close games”. And they did until the end. The team played about as mistake free as you could over two games against Kentucky and NC State under the brightest lights. I have been watching March Madness for 25 years that I can remember and my favorite thing is the tightly contested games between great teams and players giving it their all, which brings out the absolute best. That our school was in two such games is a dream come true for the university, program, players, and Coach Kampe. I really can’t put into words how surreal it was to watch an NBA size crowd rise to its feet when Oakland needed a stop or made a bucket that changed the momentum. I have had fortune to see Oakland play in a lot of big time arenas on the road and those are always the moments when the home team goes on a run and ends the underdog’s effort. For Oakland to be on the other end of that was just absolutely surreal.
One more crazy thing: I have never been to an arena that didn’t have either Coke or Pepsi products as its pop of choice. PPG Paints Arena only has Dr Pepper products. This might be the only big time arena with Dr Pepper products. When I saw the rows and rows of Diet Dr Pepper bottles, I thought everything really was aligned for the magic of the last few days for Kampe.

A true mixture of emotions: happiness, sadness, nervousness, appreciation, etc. Definitely tip my hat to NC State. They had much more offense, grit and stamina than anticipated. That said, Oakland should have won the game with the last possession in regulation. So is the way of college basketball - many teams leaving could say the same thing. The best way to exorcise the demons of “what could have been” is to take stock, rest and follow up with great season next year. Oakland needs to use this as a stepping stone vs a fleeting moment of success. There will be changes moving forward, however, Kampe has an offensive/defensive formula that bodes well for the future.
Beyond all the Xs and Os of college basketball, the greatest achievement of the past few weeks is that Oakland University is getting due recognition. Thanks to all associated with the university!!

Oakland needs to use this as a stepping stone vs a fleeting moment of success. Anyone know where we are at on the new practice facility? I'm assuming still in planning? I feel like that coupled with the exposure we have just had should be a good step.

I bet Coach was drawing up that back-screen lob that we ran with Micah a few years ago that he missed and with Trey against Toledo (?) this year. Both were misses. I was sure we were going to run that with 1.9..... but alas.
The most disappointing thing about the game was that we didn't get a shot off at the end of regulation. That's all I can think about.

So many of us Oakland basketball lifers are simultaneously feeling a mixture of immense pride and intense sorrow — the players and coaches moreso, of course.
At his post-game press conference, Coach Kampe said: “We got the ball with 17 seconds to go and we didn't get a shot. There's only one person to blame for that. ... To have it happen in the most important game that Oakland has ever played, that's — yeah. I'll carry this with me the rest of my life. It's just terrible that we didn't get a shot. So that's on me."
I know almost all basketball coaches call a timeout in the final seconds of a game when they have a chance to tie or win. I wonder what the analytics say when you have an experienced, savvy team on the floor with 10 seconds left and you're the underdog. Kampe no doubt knows the numbers.
The guys had a Sweet 16 spot in their fingers. Alas, the ball got away before Trey Townsend had a chance to take it to the rim.
Had Oakland lost in OT to Kentucky, we’d really be crying about the gigantic missed opportunity. I’m talking myself into relishing what happened — and letting go of what could have been.

Any idea of the payout Oakland. I assume the conference gets money, but is it split evenly amongst the schools? You get one "unit" for every game you play in. The unit is about 2M each and is split 13 ways. 2/13th for Oakland, 1/13th for the league and 1/13th for each of the other horizon league teams. It's also paid out over six years. So yeah, not super material. Essentially 100K per year for the next six years.

My heart is still broken into a million pieces, which I'm sure I don't have to explain to all of you on here. I am so incredibly proud of this group, and it hurts so bad that this is the end for a good portion of them. My only hope is that going forward this increases the intrigue and involvement of the community and students, as well as demonstrates to the University leadership that investing in the basketball program can have tangible benefits to the university as a whole. We are the program that we are because of Kampe, but if we want to continue that and grow going forward we will need to begin investing more in the program. Kampe can't coach forever unfortunately.
