We can only hope. OU vs UDM twice every year would be awesome.

Those games would be huge. The entire Grizz Gang could invade Calihan. League affiliation aside, I can't wait for the two programs to start playing again. Need to get over the bad blood of the past, put the pettiness and egos aside, and settle things on the court.
That said, I completely understand if a lot of current Oakland fans don't have any interest in UofD. Sad (from my perspective), but totally understandable.

Wow this would be a great, very even move. It would make 2 teams in each of the 5 states, so traveling would be great. One of the farthest road games for us would be almost as close as our closest right now. Plus playing U of D twice a year would be great. I want an in-state conference rival so bad!

One way to potentially solve the UD-Oakland issue is by meeting in the BracketBusters next season. Detroit projects to be pretty solid next year, and we have no idea what Oakland will be like, but if they end up at a similar RPI level come January 31, 2012...I wouldn't put it past the BB selection committee to make that pairing. At least I hope they would!

I just read something that the bracketbuster pool teams get to nominate 5 teams that they prefer to play. So it may not all be up to the bracketbuster folks.
but hopefully we'll play next year without needing the bracketbuster. I miss these games. I still remember the first one after OU went D1, it was on Fox, Josh Lewin and Greg Kelser called the game, there were articles about it in the news and freep.

Kampe interview on the Oakland Press, No UD EVER again according to him. He's done with them. And they'll keep us from ever joining the Horizon which is truly too bad for OU.

I highly doubt that Detroit exclusively could keep you guys out of the Horizon. Maybe if there wasn't a consensus one way or the other on letting you guys in their vote might sway things. I highly doubt, however, that if there was a majority of support for you guys you would be left out because of Detroit's wishes.

Wright State raider fan here. YSU isn't going to get kicked out of the conference for better or for worse. I think Oakland and IUPUI (who also has expressed interest but has too small of a facility) are probably the front runners. Robert Morris and Western Kentucky both have been in discussion to jumping on board with the Horizon. Personally, Oakland is my ideal candidate, with the caliber team you've fielded this year, I think it would be good for our league. WSU and Butler has a pretty strong traveling fan base, we brought 6 bus loads and had about 1,000 fans show up at our away game at Butler. If the Horizon league network continues to grow and be successful, that will make for a bigger push on expansion. Anyway, that's my two cents, good luck with the rest of your year, hope to see you in the tournament, though at this point we've dug ourselves into a hole >.<

Good post, freewind. I also can't see Youngstown getting booted from the Horizon just because they spend all their money on football. But they sure don't seem like a great fit for the conference.
By the way, great showing by WSU in the BB. Total demolition of Hofstra.

comes with the frustrations of playing in the ever tough horizon league, when you play a stretch of two road games at valpo and butler, then play a home game against Cleveland state, you'd want to take out that aggression on someone too. Too bad for Hofstra.
