According to Paul Kampe just now on Twitter: Oakland has secured a commitment from 6-foot-8, 225 power forward Viktoras Markeveicious from Lithuania. Expected next season. He says he is currently at Stoneridge Prep in Semi Valley, California. I searched his name on Google and this video showed up with highlights of him. It says he was born in 1992. Looks like he possesses some nice offensive skills. He DEFINITELY fills a need, especially if he can contribute right away. Not sure how you pronounce his name, but I see a great nickname in all those letters: Viktor The Vicious.

Well, other than the fact that everybody looks good in an edited highlight clip and I have no idea what level of competition he was playing against there, I at least see the potential for good things.
If nothing else, he hit both of his free throws.

While doing a little research on Viktor, I came across some info that Oakland had also offered a teammate of his, Marko Gujanicic, who is listed at 6-9, 230, and can play multiple positions. For more info on the two, the schools website (linked below) has bios. www.wix.com/in3164/sphoopsFor Gujanicic's list of schools and some other info on him, scroll to the bottom of this recent story with him getting a UTEP offer. minerillustrated.com/2012/01/10/scouting-mine-jan-10-2012/

Great find, j. Looking at their website, it looks like they play a pretty good schedule. Most casual basketball fans have heard of Oak Hill out of Virginia because of all the pros they've produced, but also Findlay Prep in Nevada has produced a ton of big-time college talent lately. Also good to see that Stoneridge has produced some quality college->pro talent like Enes Kanter, Nikola Vicevuc, and Taj Gibson. Here is a link to an almost complete game between Stoneridge and Findlay Prep from November. www.ihigh.com/westcoasthoops/broadcast_188569.html?silverlight=1It's not the best quality, but you can get a feel for Viktoras who is #32 in gray. I skipped around a bit and every time I did it seemed like it was #40 (Gujanicic) who was doing something impressive, but at one point it is interesting to note that Viktoras' position match-up was against Brandon Ashley, who is a consensus top-10 recruit in 2012 who is headed to Arizona in the fall. This guy will at least have faced some quality competition before arriving at OU.

Interesting that they played Findlay Prep, because OU reportedly was recruiting Canadian Matt Willms, so it's possible that they could've seen Viktor and Marko there and moved on. If I'm not mistaken, doesn't Darren Sorenson have extensive experience in working with players from that part of the world? If so, it's also possible they may have known about them and just wanted to see them in action in America before going after them.

I modified the title of this thread to represent the spelling of his name that appears on his team's website, and not the version reported by Paul Kampe. Also if you Google that spelling, Viktoras Merkevicius, there are much more results. I also found this update from his school congratulating him on his signing and also good test scores. Good to hear. Hopefully the guys on the Kampe show will have a chance to ask Coach about Viktoras.

Intriguing....where is he playing in that video, the local boys and girls club? He looks smooth but it's so hard to judge him based on the competition. He does look like a confident ball handler with some good moves for his size

According to Jeff Goodman of CBS, Viktoras' teammate Marko Gujanicic has signed with George Mason.
