I know this is odd timing, but I was looking and the horizon standings and thought to myself, "why didn't the Horizon do anything last summer??" We are still at 9 teams, which is an embarrassingly odd number which hurts our legitimacy. Even the Summit League did a good job of adding teams when others left. If the Horizon doesn't have a new team by next years tipoff I will be seriously concerned. I still am concerned that there was very little conversation all off season about this.

I'm hoping the Belmont thing happens.

One thing the Summit League was accustomed to was transitioning in new teams. I don't think the Horizon was prepared for 2 departures. I completely agree about the amount of time it has taken. Not every team wanting to move is nearly as vocal or a logical fit like OU. The HL needs to step it up.

All the more reason our recent recruiting successes are so welcome. Adding Belmont would be a nice feather for the HL, but immediately make the conference even tougher.

My bold ass prediction is Belmont and one of the Kentucky Schools in, Youngstown out.

My bold ass prediction is Belmont and one of the Kentucky Schools in, Youngstown out. I think most of the HL would be glad to see YSU go but they don't have any options available to them. They don't have anywhere near the finances to upgrade football to be in the MAC. In regards to the 4 schools listed in the article, we aren't going after one of the 4. We are going after 3 teams and trying to get the conference to 12 members. If we can get to 12, the HL will split into six team north/south divisions. I am curious as to whether the addition to Bo Pelini as the new football coach at YSU would be a reason why YSU may want to make a jump to regular division 1A football. The MAC would be a good fit for YSU

I would really like to see 12 teams.
East: 1. OU 2. UDM 3. CSU 4. YSU 5. WSU 6. _______
West: 1. UW-GB 2. UW-M 3. UIC 4 . Valpo 5. ______ 6. ______
WSU would need a travel partner and the two others could be travel partners.
The top 5 seeds on each side could make the post season (with the top seed on each side with a 1st round bye)

If we go to 12 teams...here is my prediction ---- Robert Morris - Since they would bring the Pittsburgh market into the Horizon League - and their proximity to Youngstown makes them and ideal travel partner. Then 1 of the following 3 (Eastern Kentucky, Murray State, or Morehead State) - this would bring a team from Kentucky into the Horizon and close the gap between WSU and Belmont with a team in between. I prefer Murray State based on the strength of their Basketball team, of course. Most of these schools are between 3 and 4 hours from Belmont, so they could be travel partners. This would likely leave WSU and CSU as travel partners, being 3 hours from each other. Just my thoughts -- throwing it out there -- what do you guys think of an RMU entering the HL mix?

Northern Kentucky and Lipscomb are also in play here. I would be disappointed if IUPUI was in play based solely on the fact that the Horizon League offices are located in Indianapolis.
