I figured with the success of Brian Stuard (let's face it, probably the MOST successful athlete in Oakland History), I decided to start this thread for those of us that are golf fans. Going to start by posting Brian's approach in the 4th round of the Waste Management Phoenix Open on 16. If you have never seen 16 before, it's the stadium hole - we are talking 20,000+ rowdy fans. The most exciting hole in golf, and Brian hit the shot of the day there last week... www.pgatour.com/video/2015/02/01/brian-stuard-takes-advantage-of-a-great-tee-shot-at-waste-manage.html

Rough day for Brian Stuard yesterday - especially with the putter. Brian missed putts from 3', 4', 2 8footers and a 9 foot putt. This coming from a guy who at once held the longest streak on tour without a 3 putt.
While Brian is tied for 69th, if he can shoot just Even par for today, he should move up the leader board and get a few extra FedEx Cup points out of the deal.
Brian will TEE off from the 10th tee at 1250 ET - pgatour.com will have their LIVE@ coverage on the 13th hole streaming online - which means you can probably catch a glimpse of Brian playing the 13th around 140pm.

Rough start to the 4th round for Brian on Sunday...the commentators were stating that Brian was very "figity" - especially in the bunker on 13, when he looked at the flag 9 times before finally hitting the shot. He was 4 over through his first 13 holes. But he finished strong, going birdie/birdie/bogey/birdie/birdie - enough to move up 16 spots into a tie for 53rd (good for $14K paycheck) - 10 shots off the winner.
For the year - Brian stands at 102 on the FedEx Cup point list with 137 points. He has made 4 of 9 cuts, and has surpassed $300K in earnings through his first 9 events. Not too shabby if you ask me. His official World Golf Ranking is now 169. Brian needs at least 363 more FedEx Cup points to most likely be safe for next year and get himself in the Top 125 again (last years #125 had 438 points - so 500 points is a good target).
Brian is set to play in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro AM this week --- Happy Gilmore and Shooter McGavin are not in this year's field. More updates to come.

Update from Pebble Beach ---
Brian Stuard shot a -5 round at Spyglass on Thursday - Positioning himself very well for Friday's round at Pebble Beach.
On Friday, Brian was -4 thru 13 holes and -9 for the tournament and in a tie for 5th when disaster struck on his 15th hole. On the Par 5 6th hole (his 15th since he started on the back 9), Brian shanked his tee shot, had to take a penalty, and bogeyed the Par 5. He went on to bogey the 8th as well, finishing his round at -2, -7 so far for the tournament (T26).
Brian will play his 3rd round at Monterey Peninsula today @ 1:01pm ET. MP is considered the easier of the 3, and scoring there has been very good (Jason Day shot a -9 62 yesterday). The field will be cut to the Top 60 and Ties after the 3rd round today. Current projections for the cut line will be in the -5 to -6 range.
It's important that Brian get off to a good start after his poor finish on Friday -- making a 3rd cut in a row would be huge for his confidence. The field is very tightly packed - he is only 5 shots off the lead. More updates to come...

Brian got hot in the 3rd round, and put himself in good position for a very nice paycheck.
Brian went -5 for the round, and got hot on the back 9 with birdies on 12, 14, 15, 16. He sits tied for 10th at -12 for the tourney, 6 shot behind Jim Furyk at -18.
Brian tees off at 1155am ET.

I was on vacation last week and away from a computer for a while -- so how about a Brian Stuard update... Brian finished out at Pebble Beach last week in a Tie for 21st - moving him to 84th in FedEx Cup points at 183 points - it was his 3rd made cut in a row, and 3rd top 25 finish this year. This week - Brian is at Riviera CC in LA - where he made his 4th cut in a row. Brian has been consistent this week - posting 3 straight even par rounds. Brian found himself within a couple shots of the lead after finishing out the front nine with a 29ft birdie bomb to go -3 for the tourney yesterday, just a couple shots off the lead. But, bogeys on 11, 12, and 13 sent Brian back. He currently sits 8 shots off the lead. It wont take much to move up the leaderboard today, another Even Par round should get Brian in the top 25 again. Finally -- good news - Brian will be part of the Final Round Feature group on PGA Tour Live @ coverage. Brian will tee off with Hunter Mahan and Camillo Villegas starting at 1140am ET - Follow all the coverage here: www.pgatour.com/livegolf

Brian finish at +2 yesterday, and +2 for the tournament, good for 39th place. He moved up 6 spots in the FedEx Cup point list - from 84th to 78th with 215 points (remember - 500 is the magic number to keep his status for next year) Total earnings this year has eclipsed $400K already - in just 11 events. Brian will not be taking the week off - he is confirmed to play the Honda Classic. Other notables include Phil and Rory. Current link to Brian's PGA profile --- you can also catch some hi-lights from last week's tourney: www.pgatour.com/players/player.31560.brian-stuard.html

Hope Brian keeps it up. Last few years he tends to start the season off really well then goes into a huge slump.

I agree, Leobrn12.
Kind of the opposite this year, started off really bad after the Tournament Championship, but starting to make some cuts right now.
While watching the Live@ coverage, I couldn't help but notice the amount of time he takes hitting each shot. He is constantly looking up at the target, sometimes up to 10 times before settling into his shot. Commentators noted that as well.
Also worth noting, Brian's caddy has some experience...used to be Jack Nicklaus' for a while back in the day.

Rough day 2 for Brian at the Honda Classic -- back to back double bogeys on the back 9, and Brian finished with a 2 round total of +5, tied for 72nd, 1 shot off the cut line.
Brian is taking next week off, which I find a bit surprising as the World's best players will be at the WGC...Brian did not qualify for the WGC. However, there is the Puerto Rico Open, and it would have been a great place for him to bounce back, as he always seems to score well there.
It will be interesting to see if he comes back in 2 weeks for the Valspar Championship....a tournament in which he did not make the cut at last year.
