Scott verbally committed to play basketball next winter at Oakland University in Michigan, announcing his decision at a press conference held at Williamsport High School Monday evening. He can sign his letter of intent on April 12, when the NCAA’s late signing period opens.
“I’m blessed to get the opportunity to play at the next level and extend my academic career,” Scott said. “I talked it over with my family and coaches and people like (Darrick) Rizzo and they really helped me and I appreciate them helping me get through this. I appreciate everyone, as well as the fans and the teachers on the hill. A lot of people have helped me and I appreciate everything they have done for me.”
Scott sure has done plenty for Williamsport. The senior guard/forward has put together three straight excellent seasons, helping Williamsport increase its win total in each of the last two. The 6-foot-3 senior has played every position, become a 1,000-point scorer and provided strong passing, rebounding and defense.
Combine his talent and drive with his athletic ability and solid grades and Scott became a hot Division I commodity. Florida International and St. Bonaventure recruiters were at the Penn Wood game. Scott also had interest from schools like Arkansas, Kansas State, Delaware State and Iona.
Ultimately, Scott felt most comfortable at Oakland. He liked the atmosphere, the coaching staff, his future teammates and the academic program. Scott likely will play guard or point guard and could see playing time as a freshman if he continues the upward climb that has made him one of the state’s premier players.
