The NHL/Red Wings whoever would help pay to convert the Orena into a hockey rink.
OU would have to pay for the new basketball arena. Which they need anyway.

How about a new arena that does basketball and hockey?
They would probably have to knock some of the rec center out to fit a hockey rink into the o'rena now lol

There is no way you would attempt to retrofit the Orena for hockey. It's too small. The last I heard, it wasn't even feasible to add more seats let alone all the infrastructure required to have ice.
Ideally, you build a shared facility and have the Orena as a practice facility.

Fine... crush my dreams.
Don't want to see a shared facility. The draw to building a hockey arena is they're actually money makers as there's a lack of ice time in general for teams.
Build me two arenas OU!

We can use the Orena for practice, community events, and other sports like volleyball. Build 2 new arenas. One for bball, 1 for hockey. That hockey arena will be busy with both mens & womens teams between their games & practices. And the local team rentals. Hopefully they can keep the new arenas in the general area of other athletic facilities to create something like an athletic campus/area.

A public private partnership like the dome would be great. Then you can focus on funding for the teams.

I know is likely wont happen but wish tom Gors would sell the palace to ou that would work great for hockey and basketball even though its off campus its not really far could be feasible what do you guys think.

The palace is too far & way too big for any OU sports. There is plenty of land on campus that can be developed. In my humble opinion.

Agreed. Plus the operating cost alone of a facility that size would be substantial. Not to mention the value of the land is significant. When I worked there as a college student, it was not uncommon to have multiple events on the same day to make money. I remember several times where the Vipers drew as well as the Pistons.
Looking at the crowd tonight at LCA, it sure looks like the Pistons alienated their fan base.

The cost thing ik could be an issue. Idk what the cost running would be but yea maybe kinda big would give us lots of room to grow. But was thinking up frount would be way cheaper than a whole new building plus the O could be the practice facility we need. But yea probably true would still be too expensive was just a thought
