Verbal Commits reported Dan Oladapo is in the transfer portal tonight, dropped right around halftime of the championship game.
Kampe’s poker pal Tony Paul previously reported that no other transfers were expected (so you know the source was Kampe), so gotta imagine this was a bit of a surprise. Though perhaps there are no surprises anymore.
We’re all just building teams now, not programs. As always, I wish Dan nothing but the best. He has been a tremendous player in his two years here.

This doesn't even affect me anymore when we lose a great player like this. Norris hit me hard and Cumberland was ok to me because he was a grad transfer. But the rest of them: Maddox, Williams, Dan... eh, whatever.
You're 100% right about "teams, not programs".

I remember when Gibby left as a free agent to go to the Dodgers. That hit me hard too (I was 10 I think). I didn't know what to feel. I had a newspaper clipping for the longest time of a drawing of him in his 84 World Series celebration arms in the air pose, but instead of the Old English D on his uniform, it was a dollar sign.

When a 6’8” low post player gets upset about a 6’7” wing being brought in, you know they’re fragile. He committed and decomitted 3 times before stepping foot on campus 2 years ago. Dude is just... wired different it seems. Whatever. Is what it is. Teams not programs. I like that. I’ll credit you on twitter when I inevitably steal it.

Transfer portal is getting beyond ridiculous. I go agree in a sense that it doesn't affect me that much anymore. Just a game of musical chairs with these players now.

14 transfers in 2 years. This is killing the fan base. My 10 year old can't even keep track of who is still on the team from year to year. It is hard to grow a fan base this way.

The entire transfer portal system has turned into a circus - and not unexpectedly. We can drag out the old cliches: Kampe is too hard, too old school, he needs ago adapt to the new players, blah, blah, blah. Utter garbage. If a player isn’t getting playing time, they leave. If they have a great season, they leave for greener pastures. After all, it’s always better “somewhere else.” It is a no win situation for many schools. Is this really the intent to have a constant shuffling of “student/athletes?” Maybe good for Twitter, but not for teams trying to build a basic program. Kampe, with his decades of experience, needs to unload on the NCAA and figure out a reasonable alternative. Otherwise, why keep coaching?
My prediction: The portal will be significantly curtailed in the coming years. Or, Kampe himself will join the portal.....

My prediction: The portal will be significantly curtailed in the coming years. Or, Kampe himself will join the portal..... kinda an overreaction here. maybe instead of unloading on the NCAA he should focus more on the personnel management side of being a head coach. and why shouldn't someone leave if they aren't playing? it's a very finite period you have as a college athlete. you pour hours and hours into being part of a team. to not actually compete after all that is grueling and heartbreaking. maximizing your college experience as a student athlete means actually playing/competing. and sometimes your original destination turns out to not be the spot for that. just like any other student, these athletes can move elsewhere when they deem fit. best of luck to dan.

I agree ouxcalum. I'm all for the freedom of the athlete. And I certain types of coaches can keep a team together better than others. I was wondering like oudrummer if Dan took the Cain transfer in as a slap in the face, when in reality they wouldn't be competing for direct playing time. IMO, every starter on the team would be better served by playing a few less minutes a game.
I also wonder if Coach and Dan talked to each other prior to entering into the portal. I hope hope hope they did. If they did, and couldn't come to an agreement/understanding, then I think this path forward is for the best.

I'm disappointed to see Dan go, but wish him all the best wherever he may land. Hopefully, we can continue to use the portal to find suitable guys to fill the spots of those who left. We have used transfers to our advantage in times past like Zion, Cain, as of late. Or a little further back pre portal days like Rawle Marshall (Our 1st NBA player), Cortney Scott, Larry Wright, etc. This portal is not going away. We need to continue to use it to benefit us. Also, if we can win we will attract more players here, instead of losing as much as we have.
