Man…what a disappointment. I thought the officiating in the first half was very consistent…the refs let the guys play. For some reason…they decided to change, and 8 minutes in they called twice as many fouls than they did in the first. I don’t like to blame refs - but man there was a ton of questionable calls and no calls, specifically with basket interference. There had to be 3-4 occasions where a WSU player slapped the backboard while the ball was on the rim. I had to check the rule book on that, I can’t believe that isn’t goaltending. WSU was totally crashing the boards - just killing us. There were many instances where I though an over the back could have been called based on the amount of contact there was, but it wasn’t called. Meanwhile, we leave space so we don’t get bad fouls, and that cost us. As I was leave, I saw Steve Waterfield follow the reds to the ref room, I hope he gave them an earful…I know I did on my way out. I hear you but we had some they easily could have called on us that they didn’t so I personally feel officiating was a wash. I’m not sure how many times it happened but it seemed like a few is where the 3 point shooter was able to get their own rebound. That just can’t happen. We are going to give up offensive rebounds with Basile out there and having no true big but 17 is just way too much. This is probably the worst matchup for us in the conference, we shot 15/30 from 3 and 9/11 from the line and lost. In the end all that matters is finishing top 4 and getting the home game and the Bye. Have to forget about it because these next 2 games are the most important for securing that.

Clearly, the ghosts of past failures continue to haunt this program. Who could have envisioned this kind of mess after the Florida tournament or taking first place after beating PFW on the road. With a packed house and a national ESPN audience, which Kampe craved, Oakland gave up an 11 point lead and almost assuredly lost any chance for a first place finish. However, in the context of the past 10 years, this kind of performance is not new.
The names and faces may change, but when the spotlight is the greatest, Oakland continues to make bewildering mistakes that contribute to a culture of underperformance and a “wait until next year” mentality. From preventing any form of offensive rebounds, to missing dunks, to lazy inbound passing, Oakland is yet again asking how did this happen? How did we go from battling for first place to “just” make the top four?
Special kudos to Blake Lampman. For all the grief he has received, he has rounded out to a fine player.

Wright State did a great job moving the ball around. It forced us to go running at 3-point shooters, going past them, then the shooter getting the rebound.
Offensive rebounding killed us. We are so bad at that.
