We all know he should have been forced to retire long ago. It didn't happen because too many fell in love with him rather than evaluate him on what his teams were doing on the floor. And if you didn't expect this kind of total collapse, you didn't pay attention during the last Wright State implosion at home. Kampe teams never understand that making a 3 under pressure in an elimination game is very different than in a semi-meaningless game versus a bottom feeder team. Add to that the fact that playing zone defense and still giving up interior passes for layups is a disaster waiting to happen. Throw in your best player being prone to foul out, and you have a recipe for another wasted season of nothing. There are people on this board that actually believe that Jamal Cain & Micah Parrish are going to the NBA. Kampe is a snake oil salesman and Im done with him. This was his best chance to make the tourney since 2011 and he didn't even get close Seriously, how can Cain make the NBA when he is fouling out so often. You get an extra one in the pros, but the kid can't stay on the floor when playing a zone for 40 minutes a night.

It's definitely not pretty.
With only one opportunity to make the tournament, it's a constant disappointment for the majority of mid/low-major teams. Duke hasn't won the ACC title in 20 years, but no one cares because they'll make the tournament every year.
99% of teams in our situation have season results just like ours.
We're not going to win the regular season / conference tournament every year....but with the teams we've had, we should have made it to the tournament at least twice and maybe won a game.

I agree that we won't make it every year, but we have never won the Horizon. We have never been the last team standing. We have had some extremely talented teams, and it seems like the Horizon has been having 'down years' for quite some time. We will not have another Jamal Cain. Who knows what Moore and Parrish will do.
To add to that, all year Kampe has been building expectations for this team, even before the season started. I remember when he actually was talking about going undefeated in Horizon League play and what seed we will be in the NCAA tournament. At the time, I was very shocked that he would publicly say that, as it's an incentive for other teams to beat you, and just not a good look. Yes we won 20 games, but with the expectations that were placed on this team, this year was highly disappointing.

At the end of the day, Oakland’s program has fallen behind WSU and NKU - and I don’t see this changing in the foreseeable future. While the O’Rena and the Grizz Gang are tops in the league, the actual team has been pretty mediocre. Just look at the record the past 11 years.
It is clear that the team’s lack of depth and how the top four were played, contributed to the team’s late season collapse. However you slice it, an experienced coaching staff should have never let this spin out of control.

You know what they have in common, the best athletic facilities in the league. We do pretty darn good with what we have...but just imagine where we could be with more investments from the school. Golf just got a big investment from a donor...and I bet we see great success from that sooner rather than later.

New facilities can't make up for a coach who is coasting at best. Don't believe me, just look at the final results. One first place in this mediocre league over the last 10 years is an absolute disgrace. And regarding facilities, OU is never going to build a new arena complex, they have stated this explicitly. The absolute best that could happen would be some modifications of the O'rena complex, and I highly doubt that anything that could be done would move the needle.
No, you want to change the course of OU ball, you have to start over at the top. It is long past due.

He loves to talk about how this season's squad is going to be cutting the nets down at the season's end, but all that is just hot air. There is no accountability for results. OU has decayed into being a 5-6th place team in a low ranked league. Every OU fan needs to answer the question, "Who bears accountability for this slide?" Kampe's talk and the excuses don't cut it anymore.
