with the first exhibition game about 8 days away I was wondering about everyones expectations for the coming season. I saw drummer boy has us at 4. been a quite summer on here, I need some Oakland basketball talk. from reading stuff on the league it might be the best its been in a while. I'm guessing that's because of the covid guys. thoughts?

Yeah I feel the same way. It's quiet to be so close to the season. I think we will have a middle of the pack team. If we can be in the 2nd tier, I can live with that. There are so many new faces. I'm not sure who will be the pg? I'm not sure if the new guys can play at the D1 level consistently. Nor am I sure if they are a good fit in Kampe's system. Time will tell. Maybe others have similar thoughts of uncertainty which leads to the quietness.

Kampe has said he feels they have more depth this year and can go back to Oakland style ball I think the pg is a transfer from Hillsdale he was all league there

Eager to see the new guys, as there's lots of unknown but plenty of intrigue. Likely to attend the exhibition since in-person viewing is quite limited until the calendar changes. Buru excites me the most as he seems like someone who could be rather dominant in the Horizon and a potential dark horse for second all-league team. X-factor is DQ Cole who I've heard some hype around. Perhaps Kampe uncovered a gem there.

Oakland preview coming tomorrow I believe from Horizone Roundtable. The Hillsdale transfer is NOT a pg. Griffin Beers did the preview and has a ton of great info for everyone. Check it out.
And I had OU 5th personally.

Getting some guys on the roster who can get rebounds was a must. I believe they have that this season. Time will tell once the games are played of course. I am a bit concerned on the PG spot and who is going to be the best fit for that spot.

Depth will be much better than prior seasons, along with overall athleticism. With so many new faces, the question will be how much Oakland can hang with the top teams in the league on a consistent basis. History suggests teams need more than a summer in order to coalesce. Also, the top teams are not sitting on their past success.

Attended the open practice for season ticket holders last night so was able to see most of the team play in person for the first time (Osei Price, Rocket Watts and Buru Naivalurua did not practice due to attending class, injury/sickness and eligibility issues per Kampe). Practice is practice but it is definitely apparent that this team will have more depth than we have been used to the last 5+ years. Obviously missing out on seeing those three players listed who will be starters and/or big parts of the rotation didn't allow the complete team to be seen in action and to really see what Kampe has this year, so that we'll have to wait till we get into game action for that.
As far as the newcomers to this year's team, in my opinion they all appear to be immediate impact players in the rotation with the exception of Michael Rodgers who appears destined into a utility backup PG role and Zavier Banks, being the only freshman on the team appears to be maybe a redshirt candidate. Jack Golhke was the biggest standout out of all of the new incoming players at practice. Physical, mature body who can really, really shoot the basketball and who isn't afraid to take and make tough shots, expect him to start or be one of the first scorers off the bench. Tone Hunter, late arrival to practice so didn't get to see as much of him, but he's a potential candidate to start at PG. Looked pretty explosive and quick bringing the ball up the floor and defensively, not sure he has the offensive skills Jalen Moore has both passing and scoring but he should be more than okay. Aundre Polk, looks like he will be a pretty effective big man at 6'10" coming off the bench who can both score multiple ways along with rebound and provide some rim protection. He appears to have a lot of injury concern so don't foresee him being able to handle a large workload of minutes, at least right away. D.Q. Cole looks to be another scoring option from the perimeter but also able to play PG, however he had a rough go of it last night for stretches mainly on the defensive end of the floor so not sure where he fits in the rotation (I would guess a bench role). Isiah Jones showed flashes of being an end of the rotation wing/perimeter depth piece, but really didn't see enough of him either to really see what he can do on the court. Buru Naivalurua, who I mentioned earlier did not practice, but from what Kampe has said about him seems to be a big rotation piece who can really rebound and is an explosive athlete so will be very intrigued to see him in game action. However, Kampe did mention the possibility of him not being eligible till after Christmas (assuming something with credits/classes not transferring over or being adequate enough for the NCAA's liking).

I personally find it harder and harder to get excited for this program in the preseason. Lately, we've replaced half of the rotation every season, so before I can see a few games, it's kinda hard to tell what we have. Gone are the days of awaiting a promising sophomore who barely plyed the year before and a freshman with great tape joining our existing core. Instead, this year, I honestly don't know who besides Trey is in our top eight. I mean, I know this is life in the Age of the Transfer Portal, but it doesn't mean I have to like it.
