Disgusting performance and a continuation of the FW/MSU/Dayton results. Even the announcers were saying Oakland needed to get out of the zone defense - it was collapsing.
Stumbled across a YouTube gambling video previewing this game. Vegas thought this would be a tight game, but was concerned that Oakland had “one of the worst three point defenses in the country.” Seemed to me every time Oakland closed the gap, CSU would hit another three pointer. This should not be the case with this roster.

This should not be the case with this roster. Kampe in his post-game said they played great defense. He's delusional. He can't admit his zone has failed. They don't have athletic enough wings to cover the corners which is where they give up the most open shots. The offense doesn't get enough players involved. Teams have figured out Townsend and then he doesn't score we can't win.

Agree we aren't beating fort Wayne Cleveland st or Youngstown in the tournament due to them shooting well we can't shoot well enough to keep up the broadcast said it will be weird when he's not here everyday I want to find out more and more and now that we have the practice facility coming getting a better coach should be easier

His team doesn't shoot the ball well enough to play high scoring games and doesn't defend well enough to slow down the pace. It's too late in the year to switch to man-to-man when you have a team that's been playing nothing but zone for years. He's afraid to extend the zone to defend 3 point shots because he only has one rim protector in Conway. This is why he brought in Aundre Polk...but he's proven to be useless. I'm not saying this team can't turn it around but their margin for error is really thin

This is a coaching thing right now. And I THINK they know it. Kampe is also being Kampe and being stubborn. His best lineup right now would be:
Rocket/Tone Gohlke/Lampman Townsend/Jones Buru/Townsend Conway/Buru
There is not a team in the league that can matchup. Pepper in DQ and Price with the bigs sliding around a bit to help spell each other. It’s a 10 man rotation with Polk still an option for some limited minutes if needed at the 5. With Townsend at the 3/wing it would prevent him from having to have the ball in his hand as much as he has at times which has proven to be a lot of turnovers.
The issue seems to be Kampe’s deadset approach to show Lampman is a star when he’s simply not. Can’t be a consistent shooter? Put him at the PG? That’s been awful and the inability for the offense the past few games is not a coincidence. Rocket isn’t a great PG either but he’s certainly more skilled with the ball than Lampman. If Oakland would play bigger it would help the zone as well. Have Townsend at the top of the zone as the wing and it will help with the 3 point defense. Play bigger lineups and score inside, a strength of this team and what they’ve done well when they win. Let Conway, Buru AND Townsend pack the paint offensively. Let them work down low and guess what, will open up the 3 instead of forcing it.
But instead, they’ll continue to force Lampman down our throats since he’s the senior captain who is playing through injury. I guess.
We’ve been told he’s a shooter since he got here. He hasn’t been. Now we’re being told he’s a future coach. I hope that works out for him better then being a shooter.

I posted this on Twitter. It was pointed out, accurately, that Blake does a lot more on the floor than Gohlke. I’d swap them in the proposed lineup I put out there.

In what should have been a huge positive for Oakland, the return of Lampman, has on the face of it turned into a mess. Can’t comments on what’s going on behind the scenes other than the bottom line results are terrible. The team that beat Xavier and played so well against Ohio State and Illinois is nowhere to be found.
A major part of the problem is that Oakland falls behind so significantly due to poor defense. They are then forced to have greater reliance on three point shooting - thus, a vicious circle.

Blake is a major asset to this team. He does so much on both sides of the ball. I'm not sure how that is even questioned. I think he stars in his role, but I wouldn't call him a star. He is the team's leader too. We need what he brings to the team.
