Rather have a solid D-1 program and no tuition hike than play in the joke that is the GLIAC.
I hope OU never gets football if it is at the D-2 level. Sweet Grand Valley has won a million championships. Wait, no one cares.

Quite simply playing devils advocate here, but look at what out basketball program has become. I know it takes a lot more to get a football program going though.

The money involved is tremendous and the process takes a long time. Getting potential athletes to come to Oakland is another big deal in itself. I say be happy with the basketball program and the other athletics programs. I think we should worry about other sports such as hockey (who has done well in the past and gets no support), lacrosse for both men and women, and our baseball/softball programs.

That is a really positive review, but it would be nice if he could improve his outside shot. His hustle and defensive attitude will fit right in with our program.

Poches had been out for a while with a concussion, but in his first game back he went for 40 points and 11 rebounds...against a rival! hartland.patch.com/articles/hartlands-poches-scores-40-in-playoff-win-over-howellAnd get a load of this quote from the future Grizzly: “I can’t explain it. It’s not big to me how many I score, as long as my team wins I could care less,” said Poches, who hadn't played since a concussion he suffered during a Feb. 4 game against Milford. Savvy with his words already. Interesting to note that the article didn't mention how many assists he had or anything, though maybe that is why I recall Kampe using the phrase " make him into a point guard" when talking about Poches role for OU.

Back in the area this week so I went and watched Poches tonight with Hartland in his District final. Some terrible basketball being played (when compared to a year of watching nothing but fine college hoops) but Poches was, as one might guess, a standout player. Nice demeanor on the court, good attitude. Almost all of his baskets seemed to come on drives or in transition. Did not see him attempt a mid-range jumper, and he did not connect on the one or two long range shots he took. He was a strong finisher at the basket though. Brought the ball up the court for most of the first half, but almost exclusively guarded the post when the opposing team was in its sets. I don't see too many high schools games but I'm sure that's fairly common when a 6'3 guy who projects as a guard in college is the tallest guy on his high school team. Looks like the physique and skills are there, so the offseason conditioning and strength program will do wonders for him over time. Also worth noting he pretty much willed his team to an overtime win. He's definitely playing on a pretty lackluster high school team, so it'll be good to see what he can do when he's not the sole focus.
Was able to watch the second half with Bryan Everson of WXOU/MichPreps and he mentioned how bad Poches was at free throws. Dude couldn't hit one for his life in this game.
Brian also mentioned that the regionals in Ann Arbor this week might feature both Huron and Hartland. Good chance to see two OU commits.
