Scott McCauley, who does radio for IUPUI, runs a blog on the IUPUI website where he talks about games and trips. This paragraph from today's post caught my eye: There was some debate as to what Oakland head coach Greg Kampe told the officials when he was ejected late Saturday night. Several people along the scoring table told me Kampe yelled the officials cost his team an 11 seed. What? Apparently Oakland believed they were rolling towards an 11 seed in the NCAA tournament. (Hey, what player in America doesn’t check out bracketology?) As far as I know Kampe has not officially commented on the ejection. However, up to 7 people told me he did in fact utter the phrase 11 seed.
This comment may cause problems on so many levels for Oakland. You better believe IUPUI, Oral Roberts, IPFW, South Dakota State, UMKC...the top 6 teams in the Summit League don't want to hear about where Oakland thinks they should be seeded. Even with the loss to the Jaguars they are the favorite to win the league tourney, but are far from a lock. You can see the whole post here: www.iupuiblogs.com/blog/cherry-pickingI'm pretty sure the target on Oakland's back was already huge, so I'm not sure this would make it any bigger. If the comment was indeed said, I find it funny they are trying to use it as "bulletin board" material. Can you really take seriously anything that is said in a heated moment like that?

Ugh, I'm sick of IUPUI. From this clown to that RedZone kid on twitter, I'm done with them.
I can't wait to beat the crap out of ORU in the tournament finals.

It must be that same dribble and drive offense that Kampe learned from Coach Calapari. The Greg Kampe Show is on today at 3pm on WXOU. Listen live online.

Sounds just like Oakland here: "Our philosophy is lay-ups or three-point shots," Finamore said. "Don't shoot mid-range shots. After working out with our kids in the summer and the fall, I said these kids have the ability to drive to the basket and they can shoot three-pointers." Oakland is most certainly the team with no mid-range game. It most certainly has proven to work out, but as a result any time someone pulls up for a mid-range J I feel a panic attack coming on...just cause we have no idea what to expect!

We've been talking about the players who got all-league honors, but it's great to see Kampe get his second straight COY award.
It's true that Oakland has been winning because the talent level of the players keeps getting higher, but Kampe and the staff should get major credit for assembling and developing that talent.
Kampe has always been a good promoter and recruiter, but it also seems to me that Kampe has become a better and better bench coach over the past few years.

got to disagree here. Always thought his best asset was his coaching. Winning the league in 2000 with d-2 players and all the second and thirds. Beating ORU in the orena with that sucker play, beating a great ORU team in 2005 with half the talent that oru had. I think what he has gotten better at is bringing in top level recruits. Always though he could really coach them, never thought we would see teams that go nine-ten deep and could withstand injury like we did 3 years ago with Nelson and then this year with no Cush or Maynard.

another thing I missed, I just read the release and it said it was his fifth Summit coach of the year award. In 11 years that we have been d-1. That is pretty hard to believe. Don't forget he won the national coach of the year in 2000 by some national site. I do think the Mike Helms senior year when we were picked first and we finished 7th hurt his rep. Kind of like what Izzo is going through this year, picked second in the country and just 500 in the big ten.

An SBNation blog brings up Coach Kampe as a potential guy BCS schools will look at this off-season. Granted, the writer merely brings it up but mentions that it is probably very unlikely he would leave, but that he will get calls. www.midmajormadness.com/2011/3/9/2040571/two-coaches-to-know-north-texas-oakland-college-basketball-BCSFunny to read that because someone else brought that up to me just a few hours ago. I personally never even think about that, but I guess it is something people would rationally assume would happen given Oakland's success lately. I told the guy I was chatting with that it would never happen. I take Kampe for his word though and he has consistently said this is the best job ever.

I remember when UofM were looking for a new coach a few years ago, there were rumors of them talking to Kampe, but I'm pretty sure he said NO. I really can't see him moving right now this late in his career (although coaches do coach at much older ages). I honestly think he's very comfortable here and he loves all of the attention he's been getting with his teams achievements. Does he really want to go to a possibly crappy team where he has to start over? I doubt it, and more importantly, I sure hope not!
