I'm very disappointed in the outcome of the game. ESPN3 acted up so much so I didn't c everything, but from what I did see; Hudson had a very nice game. He was aggressive, confident, and just missed a double double, Benson's stats we're impressive, although a few plays of his we're questionable. Bader had a very strong start, and a good game overall, esp. for a redshirt freshman...
Beyond that I didn't see much else. I was disappointed in the guards Hamilton, Eackles & Wright. I expected so much more out of them. They we're aggressive at times, but it just didn't come together for various reasons.
WVU is not that good. They got offensive reb 1 after another, over and over. They also hit alot of open shots, which is our fault. honestly I didn't expect us to win, but I thought it would have been competitive, a singe digit loss margin.
I think we'll do great in league play though. Hudson & Benson should be unstoppable.

We should be fine this year, but we obviously need to see much better guard play against Ohio on Monday. We have to defend on the perimeter much better than last night and have to find a way to contain D.J. Cooper without fouling our guards out of the game.
We can't just play Ohio with the goal of preparing for league play. This is a game we need to find a way to win.

Except for Kito. And continuing an earlier trend, another animated gif to add to the stable:

Ohio has a close game vs. an average CAA team in Delaware. Kito will certainly have to be the difference maker in that game.
The backcourt must also play (much) better, otherwise Cooper and Co. will tear them apart.
This is a game the team needs to win without a doubt. We need a strong showing vs. a very good MAC squad.

My thoughts on the game are pretty similar to everyone's lol.... my ESPN3 feed was acting up like crazy so I missed a good portion of the game, but from what I did see there is a lot of room for improvement but it was very positive. I am very excited about Kito..... you can tell he has really worked on his game during the offseason, and putting on that extra few pounds has helped him in the post. Here's hoping that his trend continues and he continues to progress as the season goes on and we play bigger BCS teams. The guard play was atrocious..... you can definitely see the difference without JJ or Nelson there, it's a whole different style of offense. I think Larry needs to focus on this game a bit more because I was extremely disappointed with how he played since he came from the Big East and should have been familiar with that style of play. Defending the 3 continues to be our weak link..... that was one of Cush's specialties so him being gone definitely is making a difference. Same with Maynard.... he was a big perimeter defender as well. Kampe may want to switch to a zone defense for a bit so that the perimeter is better guarded, but that's just my opinion. Other than that..... decent game and a good start to the season

I agree with everyone I wasn't expecting a win (that should come on Mon) but it can get a little fustrating to compete with a BCS team for 10 minutes or so and then fall apart. Granted they were much more competitive in the 2nd half but they dug themselves too deep of a hole again. At least we got the first game out of the way and now know what needs to be worked on. In regards to Bader I have a feeling that in another season or so we will be saying Erik who??

WVU writer on the effect of press predictions that Oakland might be able to pull off the upset: ... Players indicated that their dominance was partially the result of some “bulletin board” material in the form of a few press clippings they had seen that indicated the Mountaineers might be ripe for an upset at the hands of Oakland. "We all try to find stuff to get us riled up, and you know, that's part of it," Huggins admitted. "I don't have a computer, so I don't have any idea. I'm computer illiterate. MySpace is where you're not. I'm not into all that." But Huggins' players were, and Mitchell said that was at least one reason why WVU hoped to not just beat the Golden Grizzlies, but instead wanted to rout them.westvirginia.scout.com/2/1021410.html

Ya, unfortunately that has been one of our problems the last two years, when we have such a star in Benson, it makes it impossible to sneak up on teams.

What a great quote. I could totally hear Kampe saying something like this.
I guess I can't knock down their reasoning for wanting to rout the Grizzlies, but it seems a little lame because it wasn't like any of the OU players or staff were saying they'd pull an upset or being overly cocky about the game. It was basically just rushthecourt and Jason King saying it was possible and hedging a lot of those predictions on Benson and Benson alone.
