This loss is inexcusable. We gave up a 14 point second half lead and got out-rebounded by a smaller, weaker, and much less athletic team (no offense to WSU, but it's not even close).
This one is going to hurt us down the road. Disgusting.

While I believe Wright State is much better team than last year's Eastern team, I am equating this loss to last year's season opening loss to EMU. This was a game we should have won and we beat ourselves at.
Have to give Wright State props for making a large majority of their unguarded shots (100% from the foul line and 48% from the three). They hustled and they benefited from us dismantling ourselves.
Like everyone else has already stated, our shot selection in the last 5 minutes were very, very questionable. I'm glad Kampe sounded pissed after the game and he was very unhappy with our final minutes performance.
With as many big time BCS schools we play this year, we just cannot afford to lose to out-of-conference mid-major schools. Wright State is no pushover, but up 14 we should have sealed the deal! This loss is upsetting.

Giving up that 14-point lead was really bad. So far through 4 games we are giving up approximately 42% from beyond the arc to other teams. That statistic doesn't lie. Tabler had a few wide-open threes, but I will say that not sure anyone would have expected Cooper Land to hit as many as he did. I think in the end the Wright State team out-hearted us. Maybe if Will was on the court, that might have been different as I generally think he has the most heart on the team, and Reggie's bankshot three was pretty huge, but then they just let Duggins have a free lay-up which was really, really bad. I think we also have to give props to Benson who hit two big jump-shots back-to-back in those final minutes. Just wish he could have had another chance to change the game. I actually agree with ouguy equating it to the EMU loss. I used pretty much the same words in my recap of the last two games (which, shameless plug alert, can be read at this link: grizzliesgameplan.blogspot.com/2010/11/gameplans-weekly-recap-purduewright.htmlOverall I thought this was as close to a must-win as possible, but now we MUST come out strong against Southern and get that neutral court win to put this behind us.

I know I'm going to get grief for this one- But the score was 54-41 with 15:18 left in the game- then you let them score 8 straight points in 1:16 minutes- Then you get a TV timeout. Although the players can take blame for the scoring- Kampe should have called a time out before waiting for a TV timeout.

He needs to have long discussion with Hudson about playing with 3 & 4 fouls. He also needs to threaten hamilton with bench time if he keeps playing like an idiot at the end of games. He got away with it against Ohio but not last night.

Having no true PG is really hurting us. There are some posessions where it really doesn't look like a play is being run.
This may be splitting hairs but I feel Larry Wright takes the ball up too slow and doesn't get us into a set fast enough. There were times last night where we were not getting into a set until there was maybe 20 seconds left on the shot clock. This is ridiculous. I know keeping it slow vs. the big guys is one of the best ways to pull an upset, but seriously Wright St. is a very equal opponent.
It is borderline to call Larry or Reggie combo guards at this point, as I would make the case that they are very true 2's.
I agree with the comment about them out-hearting us. Having little heart is something I have brought up before to some friends and it is nights like last night where it really shows. There is little JJ or Nelson-like heart on this team and it shows on nights like last night.
Great comparison to the EMU game, this was one we needed bad.
Give Wright St. credit though, they still had to win the game and make those shots. Now we just need them to perform to help our RPI!

Wright State fan here and I just wanted to make a point that indeed the game last night was all about "Heart" and who wanted it more. We had one of the smaller crowds that we are going to have all year but they did get into the game in the second half and our players fed off of that. However, we still had to make free throws and 21 for 21 is no easy feat for any team. Rebounding is all about heart and who wants it more. We struggle with rebounding the basket ball due to a lack of bigs but last night proved that wanting the rebound more does pay off.
Good luck in the Summit and I hope you go undefeated in the Conference.

Horrible road loss!! We literally blew a second half 14 point lead?? We committed horrible fouls 80 feet away from the basket, we didn't play smart at all. Wright St. did hit 100% of free throws which was good, and they outplayed us. They aren't as good as we are, they're smaller, not as athletic, and just not as good. They are a good mid major squad, but we can't loose to teams like that. They we're picked to come inn 6th in the Horizon!! 6th!! R u kidding me?
I know we're not as deep as we need to be, but at the end of the day guys just need to play ball. I miss Cush & Maynard being out there so much about now!!!
I think u gotta blame the players and Kampe for letting a 14 pt lead go & ultimately losing the game. I understand we don't have a true point guard out there, but c'mon these guys are D1 bball players, right??OU played horribly down the stretch, I'm hugely disappointed. The way we played last night, I don't know if we'll get any of the BCS wins, truly. All of those schools in my view are better then Wright St, & all those games will be on the road.

Great post-game comments from WSU Coach Donlon and from 3 of their players, who were really articulate. They gave lots of respect for Oakland, and their comments should make Oakland fans want to root for WSU even harder throughout the rest of the season.
