I completely agree that Kito at times looked like he was being dominated inside and really I can't put the blame on him being double teamed. Defensively there was more then one occasion where he just got beat while playing defense which led to an easy lay-up or dunk. His numbers by the end of the game looked good but he really didn't seem to be his normal self last night. I thought at times we looked better out there will Ilija and Hudson in the paint. I would like to see him start really bringing it because I want to see him dominate statistically in the Summit League.

I hope this is not taken the wrong way but as a former student and Grizz Gang member I was impressed with the size of the student section but really didn't hear as much heckling and cheering from the section as I would like. We need a student to step up and be the vocal leader of that section which means constantly chanting cheers and keeping the students engaged. I was glad to see almost all of them standing but really am hoping that we can hear some more involvement as the season progresses. We need to protect our home court winning streak and I truly believe the noise level of our student section and their ability to frustrate the opponent goes a long way to protecting that streak.

I'm glad you agree, I was nervous to post that and thought maybe I was the only one. Even Kampe got a bit frustrated with him yesterday for his lack of hustle. He should absolutely dominate this league. I hope this comes out right, but one of the things we saw in the post-game presser was a reporter asked a question about Kito's slow start, and Kampe kind of jumped in to offer his view on it despite it was the time for players to answer. I could be reading too much into that action, but I almost feel like Kampe has to sort of go the extra limb for Benson this season when talking to the media so a negative picture is never painted. There is so much riding on him being a draft pick next year that something like Benson maybe lacking that extra fire against some of the smaller opponents could be a negative thing for his draft stock. Now this argument doesn't completely hold up because Kampe was slightly critical of Benson after the Austin Peay game, but that was easy because he could then just say despite playing bad, "look at his numbers." No one would argue that stat line wasn't beastly. In my mind, Benson gets up for the biggest games, and I can hardly blame him. He's already got his college degree and could have likely been making money at this point if it weren't for a thumb injury (not saying that was for sure going to be in the NBA, but he would have been making a paycheck somewhere). Now he has to go through the Summit League schedule again and play in places like Macomb, Illinois and against teams like Centenary. The thing about Kito is that he is a winner and wants to win (or at least should want to win because being in the tournament again would give him that last bit of exposure). He might slog through a few conference games but I think he'll be at his best when he needs to be. As I type that I realize it is not want I want to hear as a fan of OAKLAND, but it's the truth. Think the Pistons from like 05 to 08. They got criticized a lot for not playing every game like it was their last but always ended up going far in the playoffs. Anyway, that's one viewpoint on this.

Just came across NorthOaklandSports.com which seems to do a lot on high schools in the area but also is starting to cover Oakland University sports. It looks like the site's editor has been posting the OUGrizzlies recaps for the away games but he has a unique game story for the Southern Utah match for both men's and women's. Here's a link to the men's game: northoaklandsports.com/2010/12/03/oakland-pulls-away-from-southern-utah-to-win-summit-league-opener/Cool to see another media outlet covering the Grizzlies, especially one with such a rigid focus ("North" Oakland sports).
