I am not one for making excuses because I'm not a big fan of them but the guys really looked fatigued out there tonight. Watching the first few minutes of the game gave me that impression. Lazy passes and a step slow on both sides of the ball. I liked Eackles hustle plays on a few occasions and they battled to get the deficit down to under 5 with a couple minutes to go in the 1st half but they just didn't look like they had it tonight. This little break could not have come soon enough.

Wow, that was a beat down on both ends! Obviously the game was closer than 30 for about 30 of the 40 minutes, but it doesn't matter because that was a Buckeye Whooping!
Glad the boys will get some time off, some time with their families, and most importantly, a distraction from bball. After games like this I really hope we get send back down to earth. Reality check!

Just got back from Columbus where a few Golden Grizzly fans and I took in the game. Honestly, didn't feel too much pain after this one. Maybe because we knew it was coming so quickly into the second half, but after going to Purdue and Michigan, I felt surprisingly upbeat afterward. I think that stems from just being glad that this gauntlet is over with and that the team is moving on to conference play. Ohio State is a ridiculous team - they committed just 5 turnovers to 21 assists and, true to form, just 13 personal fouls. Superb defense and got contributions from everyone.
I would love to watch the game again, but even though we have learned Benson has been playing injured, I was very pleased with his effort tonight. His last foul was pretty bad, but there were several times where I was "wowed" once again by his movement for a rebound or defensively. I don't think I have felt like that much in the past three games or so. The time he stuck around and stole the ball for the dunk while the rest of the teams were down court really stuck out in my mind. I hope he can get some much needed rest over the next seven days.
Watching Bader vs. Diebler was pretty neat. Funny how much they reminded me of each other in many senses. Bader was coming off those screens so smoothly. I also thought Ilija played well in the minutes he was given, including a couple really nice defensive stops when he was getting posted up.
BUT the most impressive player in my mind was Ryan Bass. Maybe it was the thrill that comes with seeing it in person, but to me Bass seemed to be like the only guard who could actually get the ball to Benson. He had a few sick dishes in the game, some of which were not converted, and still ended up with 4 assists to 1 turnover in 12 minutes of play. His shots were not the greatest and I still don't think we know much of what he can do as far as scoring, but in the limited time he has played and especially in this game, I believe he has proven to be our best distributor. He has that natural eye of a point guard and for whatever reason really impressed me in that regard tonight. At this point in time I'm not sure they'll tinker with the line-up much with conference play, but Bass needs to play. Reggie is struggling and Larry has clearly proven to be a more effective scorer since that Tennessee game and Ledrick can't hit a shot, period. Put Bass in there and see what happens!
It's late and I might be delirious, but that's how I'm feeling right about now.

Even though they have Centenary coming up on Tues I may also consider that to be a day of rest "lol" and a game to prepare for the much bigger game Thur with ORU.

I guess I was thinking they didn't play until Thursday. But that bums me out. Thought they'd get a week of rest. Here's a quick little travelouge-ish post about trip to Columbus/OSU: grizzliesgameplan.blogspot.com/2010/12/on-road-ohio-state.htmlI didn't add this in the post, but for the carnivores out there, if you ever find yourself in Columbus, check out Thurman Cafe. It's on opposite side of town from campus tucked away in a tiny residential neighborhood but it was gooooood eats. We got there at about 3pm and waited for an hour and 15 minutes to get seated...can't imagine what it is like a night or on a weekend. Tiny hole in the wall type place, known for its burgers (they have about 12 different burgers). All of them are huge and great tasting. It was featured on Man Vs. Food a bit ago. Here's a look at my bacon cheddar burger, lol:

Really great read from the New York Times about Jared Sullinger's upbringing and transition into being a great college player: www.nytimes.com/2010/12/26/sports/ncaabasketball/26buckeyes.html?pagewanted=2&_r=1&ref=sportsOne noteworthy tie-in for Oakland fans via a Coach Kampe quote: His game is also drawing raves, as when Oakland Coach Greg Kampe said that Sullinger was a more offensively developed version of Charles Barkley because “he’s only really 6 foot 7.” Dude is very fun to watch and seems so much easier to like than a guy like DeMarcus Cousins last season.
