Mark Snyder of the Free Press has an article today talking with OU's Elizabeth Putnam about her role as director for when Oakland hosts next year's NCAA tournament Round of 64/32 weekend at the Palace. www.freep.com/article/20120329/SPORTS08/203290477/Oakland-University-s-Elisabeth-Putnam-perfects-plan-to-host-2013-NCAA-first-weekend-games-at-the-PalaceGood article and great exposure for the school. I thought this line was a bit humorous: One change will be cosmetic. In 2006, Oakland took great liberties with the court design, painting the university's name in script form. It took up one-third of the court. Now, all the courts are uniform at the NCAA sites with the city name on one baseline, the arena name on the other and a small university logo on one of the baselines. I still wonder if Oakland's "great liberties" that year were what made the NCAA go to a standard court design. I guess you can't say that the court wasn't memorable!

Wouldn't surprise me if that was what made the NCAA change the court designs. I personally wasn't a fan of the design because it simply looked too attention whorish. I just thought that we were better than that. Obviously things will be better this time around. The school did do a great job of hosting back in 06.

I actually loved that black floor with script writing. I wish they'd put it down in the O'rena. I mean, it has to just be sitting around somewhere I'd think.

I agree with ya drummer... that floor was sweet. I actually worked that tournament when we hosted last time so that was a really cool experience to see the inside workings of what it takes to make something like that happen. Plus I got to meet all the players and coaches and whatnot which was pretty sweet. I do wonder what happened to that floor as well lol. This is great for the school though
