According to The Recruit Scoop, 2012 guard/forward Matt Donlan from California is slated to visit Oakland this spring. Interestingly, the other schools reported on his list to visit are IUPUI, South Dakota State, Utah, and Stetson. I wonder when the last time OU was in a recruiting battle with IUPUI or SDSU!!! twitter.com/#!/TheRecruitScoop/status/188997322523410432 Matt has an entire website dedicated to his recruitment, which comes off like a campaign website: mattdonlan2012.com/main.htmlSeems like an interesting prospect. He's around 6'7" but plays like a slashing guard and can drain three-pointers, according to the clips I watched on YouTube. He also throws down every now and then. Reminiscent of Taylor Braun, anyone? He kind of looks like Gordon Hayward too. EDIT: According to Donlan's own Tweet, he's also considering Nebraska, LSU, and Pepperdine. Seems like he's okay with going anywhere around the country, or at least looking at geographically diverse options.

Matt Donlan officially committed to South Dakota State today: www.gojacks.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=15000&ATCLID=205424744By all accounts SDSU picked up a solid kid and a good-get talent-wise this late in the year. In reading his Twitter feed it seems like the fact that SDSU is fresh off a tourney may have been a big factor. Usually a team won't feel the impact of a tourney bid until a year or two later, but this one happened fast with him signing late.

If I learned anything from the recruitment of Matt Donlan, it's that high schoolers have short memories. Here's an answer from a Q&A he did with Terry Vandrovec from the Sioux Falls Argus Leader: Q.You received offers from Stetson, James Madison and IUPUI, took an unofficial visit to Utah and were in talks with Oakland and Nebraska. Why did you end up picking SDSU?
A. I like the fact that it’s a very successful program. Coming from my high school program where we won a lot of games, the competitor in me wanted to go to a school where winning is a big emphasis and where people are driven to get better. Talking with the coaches, the emphasis on getting back to the tournament and winning some games is huge – I loved that. At all the other programs, that wasn’t a focal point. That was something I was really look for. I enjoyed the campus, too. It was different than a lot of the others that I’ve seen. I come from a real small town in California, kind of a rural area known for gold mining. We’re living in the past a little bit, here. I went back there and I got that same feel. If he didn't feel that was a focal point at Oakland, then maybe he didn't spend a lot of time talking with OU or something, because if he did and that point was not driven home, then it is no wonder he went to SDSU. Bottom line is recruits won't care in a year or two that Oakland went to the tourney two-three years ago.

I think its good for TSL 2 get higher quality recruits @ a SDSU though.
