That's not surprising. UW-Milwaukee and UWGB did the same thing a while back and now they are just known as Milwaukee and Green Bay.

Sounds like the IPFW AD was a bit miffed by the conference imposing this on them. It certainly creates some branding struggles if the schools themselves will continue to use the acronyms on all of their releases, merchandise, equipment, etc, while the conference calls them something else entirely. Those schools like Charlotte and Albany did those moves on their own, and even the Wisconsin schools seemed to change their brand as well (though that article states it was a Horizon mandate, but perhaps it was executed in tandem). I just don't think a conference should take this step if it is not implemented as part of a school-led identity change.

That is excellent news. PPL hear those acronyms & just laugh or automatically have less respect 4 most programs w/ long acronyms. This simplifies things & just is a smoother brand 4 all of those school if u ask me.
