The fifth annual College Basketball Prospectus book was just released today as an electronic download. A paperback will be available through Amazon in the coming days. The book is a comprehensive preview guide for the upcoming season that is heavy on tempo-free analysis (in other words, stuff like points per possession and rebounding percentages, etc, inform the analysis).
As many folks on here know, I blogged about Oakland two seasons ago at Golden Grizzlies Gameplan and then last year along with other Summit League teams at SummitMadness.com. This year, my only "official" words on either subject are in the College Basketball Prospectus book. It can be downloaded here for $9.94. It's a super deal, especially for folks who enjoy tempo-free analysis. Every single D-I team is covered. I wrote the Summit League preview and mixed in typical tempo-free analysis with a lot of the special data I collected by hand last season.
The book also reveals Dan Hanner's preseason projections. This is kind of a big shift because for years the book used Ken Pomeroy's projections, but Dan has come up with a very unique system that Pomeroy has acknowledged is a very sophisticated crack at preseason rankings. Dan's projections were used in the college basketball preview edition of ESPN The Magazine this fall.
There's also a special treat in the book as the foreward was written by John Calipari. It's short and succinct, but nonetheless cool to have the coach of the NCAA tournament champions contribute some words to our little book.
Just had to give the book a shoutout. To be transparent, I do receive a small kickback from the sales of this book. If you enjoy, please check out BasketballProspectus.com too during the season. Sadly, I won't be blogging on the team-or-league-specific level this season, but will occasionally have pieces at BP.com.
That's it for my one and only shameless plug of the year.
