Just a couple things that were on the brain during the first week of college basketball:
- As I looked at WMU box scores, I was hoping to see how Kellen McCormick was faring. He was not appearing in any of them, so I looked him up and he is redshirting this season (http://www.mlive.com/broncos/index.ssf/2012/11/freshmen_kellen_mccormick_von.html). Still, the young Broncos are off to a pretty strong start given their youth.
- I've also been paying a lot of attention to the McNeese State box scores to see how Ledrick Eackles has been doing, but he has yet to log a minute. As one could probably guess, it doesn't appear there is much McNeese State basketball media coverage so hard to tell if he is injured or just that far down the bench.
- Watching Denzel Valentine play for the Spartans has been fun. Though his game is a bit different from Drew in his ability to be a floor general, he plays a lot like Drew and has similar movements on the court. It is hard to watch him and not think it is Drew out there in the way the run similarly and have similar mannerisms. I don't know enough about him to know whether he is a candidate for early entry into the draft one day, but if he is a four-year player as I suspect, I will enjoy being able to watch another Valentine after Drew graduates.
- Anyone paying attention to the Horizon League right now? Just about every team has a winning record so far, and big surprises in Youngstown State and Wright State being undefeated so far. Also, UIC has gotten off to a great start and just trounced the heavy favorite in the Atlantic Sun. Milwaukee got a great win yesterday too over Davidson. League is heading in good direction after Butler departure, and looks to be even more competitive from top to bottom this season.
