Little blurb in Andy Katz's daily "3-point shot" that got my attention: He talked about the New Mexico - New Mexico State and said very few in-state rivals play this kind of home-and-home on consecutive games in the same season. That intrigued me so I went and looked at their schedules over the years, and Andy is right: they play a home-and-home in non-conference play every season and more times than not the games are back-to-back! What a neat idea, and one that dates back to well before the current coaches. Isn't it amazing when two programs remove ego from the equation and just agree to play a series that is great for their state? It guarantees them two games every season, one home and one not-too-far-away on the road. They are both good programs so you know it's not going to be incredibly lopsided over time. It gets the local media interested and really energizes the fans.
