What weird timing to announce this....I can't see them really doing better competitively, but it may be less travel for them.

Chicago State Utah Valley NMSU Seattle Grand Canyon CSU-Bakersfield Texas Pan-American(that school is almost in Mexico) That said people are speculating the Summit is about ready to implode.

There was some speculation on their board going back to last weekend -- it just seemed so odd that it was not believable, but here we are. I just listened to this www.stationcaster.com/player_skinned.php?s=26&c=373&f=1062791 radio interview with the KC sportswriter. If you can get past the hosts calling the Summit pretty much the bottom of the barrel conference, there's some discussion that UMKC's move is preemptive because the Summit is going to be losing members. This was predicated on NDSU and SDSU going to the MVC. That's some crazy speculation, but given this realignment climate, nothing seems impossible.

That was my exact thought, it's possible UMKC is trying to make their move first while they have the good choices. I can see NDSU and SDSU get poached to the MVC: they already play football there and they have a great fanbase. I'd hope and pray that this means OU would get that Horizon invite. As for the rest of the Summit, who knows

UMKC to the WAC? OF course the WAC is desperate to add members at this point, but this is def a surprise to me. Kampe has some interesting comments here; opgrizzden.blogspot.com/2013/02/oakland-coach-greg-kampe-gets-to.html “I would really have to ask them why,” Kampe said of UMKC's impending departure. “It makes no sense to me. You look at those teams in that league vs. the teams in our league, their RPI isn’t even going to be in the same ballpark. But maybe they feel they can compete better there or maybe it’s a better fit for them. “Denver is coming to us, but Kansas City is going west. None of that stuff makes sense to me. There’s got to be a reason behind the move. They’ve got to be smart people making smart decisions, but it doesn’t seem like it. It looks like it’s going to cost them a heck of a lot more money to travel, and at our level, money is a big deal.”

Wow that article was filled with speculations! I'd love to see it happens as described. While I definitely respect the dakota schools for their talent level and their fan dedication, they stranglehold on the conference tournament alone makes me want them to move to the MVC. They deserve that invite as they are even more appealing than Oakland with football teams.
I think the Horizon fans have grown to accept an invite to OU, but not sure how they'd take IUPUI tagging along. They play in a high school sized gym!
Where would that leave IPFW, Western Illinois (who are now relevant in bball again), and Denver who just committed to the Summit?
What about Centenary?!!
