In one of the more bizarre scheduling stories seen in a while, ORU has to forfeit 2 league games because it would have meant playing more than 4 games against non-Division I opponents. ORU played 2 exhibitions and 2 regular season games against non-DI, and apparently the Southland newcomers -- Incarnate Word and Abilene Christian -- would have also counted as non-DI. Full story linked below along with a statement from ORU's department: www.orugoldeneagles.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=17000&ATCLID=209361875As someone on the ORU forum noted, "when you join a DI conference you think you would have DI opponents." That sums up ORU's brief affair with the Southland Conference. This is just bizarre and unfortunate for ORU. You know they weren't going to get much favor this season in the Southland and now this.

Oakland (so far) and Oral Roberts are like best and worst case scenarios for leaving a conference and joining a new one. I haven't followed ORU's transition a whole lot, so I don't know all the particulars, but I kind of feel bad for them...not that bad, but you know...
