Here's a story from the Free Press on how the search for a new athletic director is progressing: www.freep.com/article/20140501/SPORTS08/305010055I was glad to read that things are running smoothly with the interim AD so as to allow them ample time to conduct a proper search. Very important hire.

AD Finalists Per the following website, collegead.org/athletic-director-jobs/, here are the three finalists for the AD search. Jeff Konya, Athletic Director, Cal State Bakersfield Mark Shook, Associate Athletic Director, Bowling Green Steve Watson, Athletic Director, St. Bonaventure

Thanks for the update. This hire will be huge, especially since it is running parallel to the search for a new university president. Interesting that there is someone from Bowling Green among the finalists for both president and AD, on top of the fact that Kampe is a BGSU alum. Obviously coincidental, and not too surprising given geographic proximity, but interesting nonetheless.

Obviously coincidental, and not too surprising given geographic proximity, but interesting nonetheless. After Googling the AD names, candidate Steve Watson also has a BGSU connection: he is an alum and played 2 years on the basketball team. I am a bit surprised that a St. Bonaventure AD would be interested in Oakland, as from a competition level that is a step down, but he does appear to have history in the Midwest, having spent time in the Athletics Dept at Eastern Michigan too. Also perhaps he recognizes Oakland's high ceiling.

Saw Konya, the Bakersfield AD's name come up on this list from College AD. If you want to talk about money then Bakersfield has a far smaller budget than St. Bonaventure and he's been getting it done there for a few years. But I hope Oakland does hire the St. Bonnie AD because Cal State Bakersfield would be wrecked if Konya left. I post on the WAC message board and follow that program, he's done a ton to turn that fairly new Division I into a contender in just a few seasons, including getting them in a conference after being Independent for several years. I think he just wrapped up his third year in Bakersfield, would be tough for them to see him go, but I can only imagine the great things he could do for the Grizzlies given their resources and his experience.
