Wow, after upsetting us in the HL tourney UIC decided to part ways with Coach Moore. I would've thought this mini run would buy him another season but I guess a few 20 loss seasons was enough. Interesting to see where the Flames go from here.

Anyone got any thoughts on who the replacement might be?
I have heard a lot of rumors that John Beilien's son will likely get some looks by several teams. He coached D2 West Virginia Wesleyan to a 20 win season last year, and then left that job for the Utah Jazz this year. I am sure any D1 head coaching job would be very attractive.

I get nervous about this program. If someone can figure out how to leverage the fertile Chicago recruiting base this program could be a power in this conference. Amazing how despite having some of the best talent in the country there are no good Chicago area teams right now.

Amazing how despite having some of the best talent in the country there are no good Chicago area teams right now. Agreed. They were an HL power not too long ago in the late 90's and early 2000's. The right coach could put them right back into the mix almost immediately.

I would love for them to be a HL power, so long as we are also. I would love if the HL became a multi-bid conference again, and I think every team needs to pick up their games for that to happen.

I agree with dantheman about UIC being a sleeping giant of sorts in this league (though one could argue that most of the HL programs are sleeping giants!). Is Steve McClain the guy to take UIC to those heights? We will see. He is an intriguing hire as he has heading coaching experience (and had a solid tenure at Wyoming) and has been recruiting in the Midwest for the last few years as Tom Cream's top assistant at Indiana. As seems to be the case with every Illinois basketball program, the key will be can he keep Illinois talent in-state. It is amazing how much talent has left the state in recent years. I read a stat that out of the 32 conference players of the year this season, 5 were from Illinois and none play for an Illinois team.
