I was checking other Horizon League message boards this evening to read about any reaction to UIC's new coaching hire, and an interesting trend emerged: aside from Valpo, every other school's message board has a thread on the most current page about firing their head coach. And if there wasn't a dedicated thread, there was at least a thread that got off topic about the merits of their head coach. Seriously, every one of them: Green Bay, Cleveland State, Milwaukee, Detroit, UIC, Wright State, and Youngstown State.
I've been reading this forum for seven years and don't think I've ever seen a similar thread or discussion on our forum about our coach. Sure we get upset, but I really don't think I've ever read anything like that here (and hope to never see that day due to continued success). Like our coach, some of these other coaches these fans want to replace have been pretty successful, even recently. I think it is a fair question in some situations in our league, and certainly fans can post whatever they want, but I just found this interesting. I never saw that much dissatisfaction in the Summit League either, but then again there were a lot of long-tenured coaches in that league (10+ years in many cases).
I guess my thought is it is always easier to think the grass will be greener after a coaching change, but the reason there are so many coaching changes is because that usually isn't the case. Every fan base thinks they're one coaching change away from finding the next Brad Stevens or Shaka Smart, but in reality it's so difficult to hit a home run like that.

I may not agree with some of the decisions Kampe makes at times (not to mention his often stubbornness) but I am not blind to the fact that we are damn lucky to have him and what he has done for this University both on and off the court.

Kampe built our program from a D2 nothing to a player in the high-mids. A guy like that keeps his job until he's ready to lose it.
(That said, I really wish Jeff Tungate was still next to him on the bench. Our on-court performance seems sloppier since he left for the women's team.)

Most of the fans want more from our League. We used to be top 10-12 league with 2 and sometimes 3 teams in the Dance. Now conferences like the A-10 and MVC are multi bid leagues largely because of coaching. Our schools are not spending money on good coaches who can actually coach, recruit and develop players. Outside of Bryce Drew and Kampe, all of the other coaches are just average at best. Brian Wardle might be just a skosh above those last 6. We need good coaches and good recruits.
