ESPN.com's Jeff Goodman is reporting that South Dakota State head coach Scott Nagy is expected to take the Wright State job. WSU AD Bob Grant got raked through the coals from several media/taking heads for firing Billy Donlon and the way that was handled, but if he closes the deal with Nagy, he comes out on top by getting a guy that fits all the trademarks he said he was looking for: Top 100 program? Check -- four out of the last five years SDSU was in KenPom top 100. Making appearances in the NCAAs or NITs? Check -- three NCAAs and one NIT in the last five years at SDSU. What has impressed me most with Nagy is how he kept the SDSU program on the upswing even after losing an NBA draft pick in Wolters, culminating in this year's NCAA tournament berth. There are not many coaches who meet the bar that Grant was looking for who realistically would leave a position for Wright State, and yet it looks like he got one who checks all the boxes and is by all accounts a great, classy guy on top of all of that. Kudos to Bob Grant. This is a great hire that should help elevate the league, maybe not in year 1 or 2, but certainly for the future. Even if it makes it tougher for Oakland, I am at least happy that this time Nagy will not always have the home crowd behind him at the conference tournament

Would be a huge boost to the HL. I also wonder how Nagy will fare not having the tourney every year in Sioux Falls.

Very well done by Wright State. Appears the deal will be somewhere north of 400K per year. Looking over SDSU's board it appears Nagy was only making 180,000 with about 25,000 in additional compensation. Blows my mind his name wasn't in discussion for Detroit or UWM. When you wait a month to fire Ray MaCallum you miss out on a great coach like this. Though it can certainly be debated which job is better between Wright State and Detroit.
Definitely 1/1 for the Horizon league so far.

Detroit has had their guy for a few months. Really like this hire for WSU. Think very highly of Nagy from all the time we spent watching him for years.

Going to be a huge boost to point production at WSU as well - They go from defensive minded, to a team that may very well average hi 70s to low 80s in ppg next year.

I agree that this is a very good hire for WSU. I'm excited that they'll be playing an uptempo style too!

Nagy was a tough coach in the Summit, I think WSU made a big improvement with this hire. If he can recruit his kind of guys at WSU, watch out. I wonder if Nagy will be pissed the tournament isn't in his backyard anymore

The HL seems to be changing in our favor (Green Bay and now WSU) Well, it sounds like the new Valpo coach wants to play an uptempo style of basketball too ... Reminds me of when the Summit League changed to an uptempo style to match up with OU.
