Just saw that his contract was not renewed. I know very little about the program but it is clear that Konya expects results. College baseball is a tough sport to build in Michigan but should be competitive in conference. I still think the facilities are below average but they certainly made a lot of improvements in recent years. I guess if softball can win, there is no reason baseball can't.
Best of luck. Seems like a good guy.

Seems like a good guy. Hate to see Coach "Moose" go. It seemed at times he was trying to turn the program into a winner and looked headed in the right direction "at times" but at other times it would look like they would quickly fall backwards yet again and end up with the same below average season time and time again. It does get a bit frustrating to see at times. The quick bow-out at the HL tourney last month didn't help either. I do wish him the best but a part of me is glad to have a AD that doesn't tolerate average to below average results.

Two under-30 co-head coaches...
interesting.

Yeah I've never heard of such a thing. I hope it works out well.

Here's the official release from OU: www.goldengrizzlies.com/sports/m-basebl/spec-rel/071216aaa.htmlThis is really bizarre, or as Mr. Konya says, "non-traditional." I don't mean that with any sarcasm. It's just truly bizarre, but definitely a kind of outside-the-box thinking that will be interesting to see in practice.

Yeah I've never heard of such a thing. I hope it works out well. You and everybody else as well. I applaud your AD for "thinking outside the box", but not for baseball. I have never believed in "Co-" anything. It denotes an equality and you can't have that in situations where a definitive decision is made. Who makes the call on having a runner steal a base? Who makes out the lineup? What system is run? Will Kaline bring in what he's used to from Florida Southern or will Oakland go with the current culture? This will be one for the books. UIC had co-head coaches for softball and needless to say that didn't work out at all. Good luck to your baseball team, but I don't see success with this set-up. Someone has to make a final decision!

Great points Chuck. Seems to me they either need to buy into analytics and always call the "best percentage" move, or they have to divvy up responsibilities (offense, defense, baserunning, etc.).
I'm most leery of the fact they're both under 30 years old. Twenty-somethings might be relatable and good motivators, but they haven't seen all the situations you need to know the proper in-game move. Ausmus the Tigers manager is older than these guys, but he makes mind-numbing moves in some cases. Things that only experience can help with.
Recruiting might be their strength though (even ignoring the Kaline name). PJ Fleck, the WMU football coach, is the youngest FBS coach (at least when he was hired). He does crazy Sh*t that looks absurd to older fans, but the high school kids eat it up and he's had the best recruiting classes in the MAC the last three years and some have even been better than BCS schools.
We definitely will see.
