Congrats to Cov. I think both will be good assistant coaches. Of course, Cov knows OU, Kampe, Kampe's system, the local area etc. I think he's been a high school coach over the years. And I think Cov would probably stay at OU longer than Charlie Bell I'd imagine.
According to this article, Covington was Oakland's first ever DI recruit. His dad also played at OU in the 1970s.
We have four, maybe five, scholarships available for the class of 2018. With no verbals yet I am hopeful getting the staff completed will give us a boost on the 2018 recruiting trail.
He is a very good follow on Twitter - he really knows the kids on the AAU and High School circuit. He needs to get some of these guys we have offers on to commit.

Thanks for the post I'm familiar with Mychal, but I was not familiar with the other two. Good article too!
Covington is before my time as well, but really, neither Hipsher nor Jones is known for their close ties to Michigan HS hoops. As much as we're branching out to becoming a nationwide recruiting team (our roster hails from 9 different states), you have to take care of your base. This is a good hire from a recruiting standpoint if nothing else.
Loved seeing Covington as a player along with Buddenborg and the Champagne Brothers when I staying on campus. Looking forward to seeing him back on the sidelines as a coach.

I had no idea our roster came from 9 different states. But you are correct. I do agree that we def need to maintain strong ties to MI schools.
