I firmly believe that the metro Detroit area is large enough to support multiple Division 1 hoops programs. The proof can be seen by looking at rosters both locally and nationally. Within the last 10 years I'd say kids from Detroit area have played in all of the Power 5 conferences it seems, and many of the mid major conferences too. So the talent pool is there. We may "battle" for a few recruits here or there, but overall I think we aren't going after all of the same kids. I agree that we are giving fans another option of teams to choose from, but OU is a commuter school. I would think most fans come from the Oakland and Macomb counties. I think Wayne county may be more of a split between the two schools. I'm saying they shouldn't blame EMUs challenges on us. Their AD thought we were D2. I used to work at EMU and I have lived in the Washtenaw county area for years now. I have family that are alums. Most people in this area dont pay attention to EMU athletics. Not to mention that their stadiums are off campus.

Please. By this train of logic, OU going D1 caused the entire collapse of mid-major basketball that started at the end of the '90s. Apparently is was us and not the newly-enhanced TV revenues of power conferences that caused millions of additional dollars to go into the recruiting and facilities at the institutions that already had the best name recongition in the nation, widening the gaps between the haves and have-nots. This happened across the nation at the same time as it happened to EMU. Must've been us. Our alma mater is POWERFUL, guys.

EMU’s basketball mediocrity had as much to do with Ben Braun leaving than any other factor. (Another reason to appreciate Kampe). The program was not self sustainable as an elite mid major without him. Add in the apathetic student fans and the money pit that is football, it was almost predictable. Don’t forget that the expense of football and questionable leadership caused the demise of some of the more respected athletic programs at Eastern.

"Eastern this year plays Oakland’s conference foe in Valparaiso while Oakland plays Northern Illinois, Toledo, Bowling Green and Western Michigan."
Nice.

"Eastern this year plays Oakland’s conference foe in Valparaiso while Oakland plays Northern Illinois, Toledo, Bowling Green and Western Michigan." Nice. LOL. They're a bit late on that info since Valpo hasn't been OU's league foe in nearly two years.
