I believe that these players have a false sense of self worth. I'm sure ever since they picked up a ball, they have been told how great they are and that they are NBA worthy. Some believe that hype and feel they will be better elsewhere. Most of the time, that is not the case. If it is coaching style that causes this, then the player didn't do his due diligence.

On his twitter profile he lists himself as a 6-8" guard
He's a 6-6" SF He can't handle the ball He can barely dunk He has no outside shot He can't shoot FT's
Someone is a little delusional

Certainly wouldn't be a first given his flip/flopping in the past.

I think there are many factors in a player's decision to enter the portal. Two of these factors have been covered above:
1. Coming off a good season, a player gets wooed by a major program. 2. Stuck on the bench behind veteran starters, a player wants minutes and thinks he can get PT elsewhere.
Another factor:
3. Most college basketball players are aching to play in the NCAA Tournament. Oakland is in a one-bid league. I expect the burning desire to get into the Dance was a consideration for some of our most notable losses recently such as Jaevin Cumberland, Braden Norris, Tray Maddox, Rashad Williams and now Dan Oladapo.

Usually, when a player transfers twice in their college career, it says more about the player than the programs they've left. I thought this when Rashad Williams decided to leave, and I'm thinking that now that Oladapo is in the portal. This one kind of hurts, because it'll be harder to replace Dan's productivity than anyone else we've lost this summer (the dropoff from Williams to Zion Young is a mere bump compared to the unknowns behind Oladapo at the 5).
The portal is out of control though, and not just with us, and not just with mid-majors. I think part of the reason it's so outlandish this year is the free year of eligibility everybody got. Players are now looking at having an extra year that they weren't expecting to have, and hey, why not use that year sitting out as a transfer? (Or spend a year in grad school on the NCAA's dime in the case of grad transfers).
Anyway, year three of our rotation for next year being disrupted by a centerpiece leaving... Being a mid-major fan is starting to be less fun.

I see lots of people on here saying its players and the system yet do you see other teams in our league with this much turn over every year? I see a coach that build this program and made it great now hes burning it to the ground when he does finally leave Oakland could be the worst program in the horizon

Not sure what we are confused about but im just frustrated that we go through this every year and seems other schools in our league dont have nearly as much turn over so seems like a kampe problem more than due to the portal

Prediction: The current portal system is unsustainable for college basketball - you can agree or disagree. However, if the NCAA perceives the product on the court to be declining, due to high turnover, they will make drastic changes in the near future.
