Hi all...
Even though I haven't participated on the board in a while, I have continued to be a fan (and forum lurker). As someone else said, some of the negativity and arguments of a select few drove me away, but I never stopped being a Grizzly supporter.
I haven't seen a post about ticket prices recently, but let me know if I missed it. I always viewed a Grizz game as a chance to take the family out for a nice evening and a good game for an affordable price. After attending the GVSU exhibition game for $20, I wondered if this was the norm in the Horizon these days. Well, it's not -- Oakland has the highest starting ticket price of any team in the league.
Maybe I'm getting old...maybe it's "inflation." I just miss the O being full, even if everyone was paying $5 for bleachers. The team needs support and I feel like we're sacrificing important fans-in-the-making for extra revenue.
For comparison, here are ticket prices at select other Horizon schools.
Oakland: $20 (bleacher); $25 reserved IUPUI: $15 NKU: $12 Wright State: $10 Youngstown: $10 Milwaukee: $10 (upper level, which I realize we don't have) Detroit: $10 (upper)
Many of these places have larger gyms, yes. However, it's not like OU is selling out every game -- (we averaged 2,750 fans per game in 2021).
Am I alone here? Am I just a cranky old alum?

I was surprised by the ticket price as well. It was 20 for the Grand Valley exhibition game. Not sure why we are the highest in the league.

That was most surprising to me -- any cost, let alone $20, for the GVSU exhinbition. I also paid $35/ticket for Oklahoma State.
Other gyms do offer more expensive courtside tickets, but none come close to our $20 general admission. I have to think attendance will suffer -- I can go to a Pistons game for that price (resale).

Attendance has been solid so far despite the increase in ticket prices. OU also introduced a higher ticket price for select games, as you noted was the case for the Oklahoma State game and I believe will also be the case for the Detroit Mercy game.
I’m on the fence on this one. The G/A bleachers have always been the best value around, in my opinion, but that’s probably not the case anymore at $20 per ticket. That said, prices are going up in almost all other facets of life, so I am sure there is a business reason for OU to go that route.
They did not increase season ticket prices and that remains a bargain deal even if you’re in a chair back section. I think it comes in at around $12 per game.
I’m not sure if they’re doing it this year but the last few years they also did a mini package for select games that offered a better value. Something to look for or call the ticket office and inquire.

Prices were higher based on opponents as well. Something I never noticed before

I agree that prices are higher everywhere -- but bleachers used to be the value. The $20/ticket is the highest in the Horizon, which seems out of whack. However, if attendance has been as solid as everyone says (I have only been to GVSU and OSU), then I guess the demand is there. In year's past, Power 5 opponent games were an automatic sellout. It felt like we were 80% full for OSU but again, I don't have the stats on paid vs. physical attendance.
