Well, this is just confirmation on why the league was in such a rush to get the other Dakota schools in so quickly.

I'm glad they're gone. Geographically they're one of those schools that just doesn't make sense in the Summit. Also, they won't keep bringing the conference RPI down.

With USD coming in when CC leaves the league stands at 10 in 2011. UND will probably want admission to the league. Are they admitted alone, admitted with a 12th member (who?), or denied membership and allowed to languish in the Great West Conference?

I expect Southern Utah to be out of the conference in a few years.

There is some discussion of Summit expansion on the MACBBS board. You have to go down to message #34 to find the comments about the Summit. ncaabbs.com/showthread.php?tid=376983&pid=4496656#pid4496656Here's an intriguing quote from that thread: The Summit League commissioner recently made a comment that a school currently in an autobid conference has contacted their office about potential membership. Who else can that be but Denver? Denver would be a nice get for the conference.

I think the Summit should not expand farther west eg Denver, but should focus on maintaining a mid west base. Maybe they can pick up other mid western schools that are making the transition to DI like SIU Edwardsville, or Missouri- Saint Louis.
SUU will probably be gone in a couple of years. Hooray CC is leaving, and I love ORU, but geographically they don't make sense for the SL.

I've seen no information about UMSL wanting to move to D-I. They'd be good to have if it happens. I have heard some talk about U Southern Indiana wanting to move. They would fit well also. Denver is a very good market and is worth having. Being the only D-I program in that city should yield some very nice media exposure for the league. Being geographically diverse has been the SL's curse for years. Seeing that at one time the conference extended from Connecticut to Alabama to Utah the current configuration plus Denver is workable. As long as SUU is in the league Denver is within the footprint. If the T-Birds move on to somewhere, Denver is a good western boundary for the league.
