Not about OU, unfortunately, but this post in his ESPN blog got me thinking:
"Long Beach State is a Big West title contender. The 49ers, like most Big West teams, aren't likely to earn an at-large NCAA tournament berth. But the 49ers are positioning themselves for a quality power rating and a possible better seed if they were to earn a bid.
Long Beach State plays West Virginia in the 76 Classic in Anaheim, Calif., facing Clemson or Texas A&M in Round 2. Long Beach State is also playing true road games at Texas, Kentucky and Duke. I'm not sure another conference title contender from another lower or mid-major conference is taking on that type of schedule."
I can't give him too much flack since our schedule isn't released yet, but I gotta say that OU's schedule is shaping up to be right up there with Long Beach State. True road games at Memphis, Kansas, and Wisconsin for sure, MSU?, Syracuse?, etc..

Just days after posting that assessment of Long Beach State, Katz comes back today with a quick hitter about Oakland:
Possible Summit League favorite Oakland has loaded up on marquee nonconference games to improve its power rating. The Golden Grizzlies probably wouldn't get an at-large berth if they didn't win the Summit, but playing this type of schedule could help it in the long run in terms of getting a better seed (14 to 13) in March. Oakland is playing Kansas, Memphis, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Syracuse and Oregon all on the road. If the Golden Grizzlies can pull off one upset, maybe two, they would be putting themselves in position to make some noise in March. Oakland should be led inside by 6-foot-11 Keith Benson, who averaged 14.3 points a game last season for the 23-13 Grizzlies.
