From the editor of College insider......funny how the National media (media in general) love the guy.....sometimes I wonder if we know how lucky we are
THE GOLDEN GRIZZ Despite a season-opening loss to Eastern Michigan, Oakland is the heavy favorite to take the Summit League this season. Longtime coach Greg Kampe has built the Golden Grizzlies into a perennial contender in the league, with three appearances in the conference championship game in the past five seasons and two trips to the postseason. In 25 seasons at the helm, this might be Kampe's best team. Senior point Johnathon Jones, the preseason player of the year in the Summit, returns along with junior center Keith Benson (6-foot-11) who has caught the attention of NBA scouts. The Grizzlies also welcome back Derick Nelson who was a medical redshirt last season. Last year the 6-foot-5 forward was a preseason first-team all league selection before injuring his foot. Another key addition is Saginaw, MI native Larry Wright who transferred from St. John's. And if Sophomore Blake Cushingberry, who has been very inconsistent from beyond the arc, finds a rhythm this team could be scary come March. Kampe has had opportunities to coach elsewhere, but he has stayed in Rochester, MI. In fact only four active Division I coaches have been at their respective schools longer than coach Kampe, trailing Syracuse's Jim Boeheim's 33 seasons. Kampe is never mentioned among the better coaches in college basketball, due in large part because coaches are measured by postseason success. If he were at a big-time school he would be considered among the elite coaches in the game. Make no mistake about it; Greg Kampe is one of the top 10 coaches in college basketball. That's not a misprint.

Good find. Here's the link in case anyone wants to read the whole article: msn.foxsports.com/other/story/10387756/College-Basketball:-MID-MAJOR-NOTEBOOKVery glad to see Kampe getting credit for the job he's done so far. Taking a team from D2 to D1 is tough enough, but he has stayed on and built a very solid mid-major program (with a chance to be much more than solid) in a tough environment. People who don't like Kampe are entitled to their opinions, but they are flat out wrong when they try to say that their view of Kampe is somehow the majority view. No way. The program still has a way to go, but Kampe deserves big-time respect for the path he has helped put OU on.

Why bother posting this on the UofD forum? When they start hyperventilating over Kampe, it is basically a sign of weakness. Hopefully the Titans, who look much-improved this year, will give them enough things to root for on their own without having to trash Kampe and OU. But as someone who roots for both OU and UofD (OU comes first by a mile), I have to admit that I get embarrassed for some of the guys on that forum when they start frothing at the mouth. So do several of my friends who are UofD alums.

To be clear: it is obviously not my place to say what people on this forum should do. If you enjoy watching childish tantrums, then go ahead and post the Kampe article on the UofD forum and see what happens.
Just remember that many of the posters on that forum are not representative of the (numerous) good qualities of the UofD.

I personally have nothing against U of D and root for them as long as they aren't playing us. I'm a homer and like to see the home team win no matter what. I just think it is a comedic act that their fans hold everything to heart. The can't accept the fact that we are only a few miles away and can root for us. I'm not saying their fans in general but most of the forum. I hope they do well and succeed to bring more news to the area. It just irks be how irrational they are, and clearly we aren't the only ones that think Kampe is a good coach. In Kampe we trust.
