It was because Wright was walking up the floor right after the tip, when clearly they had a set play called. Kampe was not pleased at all and called the timeout to let him know. I don't think that time out is made against a bigger school, but Kampe realized that the probability of us needing that time out later was slim. In my opinion, the guys did come out slow in general and I think it was due to being 0-2. Confidence was down, as well as shooting percentages, and they needed a confidence booster. Maynard's dunk clearly woke the fans and the rest of the team up. Thames didn't seem like he wanted to be on the court, he was just standing out top. Eackles and Ilija kept the reserves going last night, and was a good sign. Ilija's hands don't like to rebound, anybody else agree? It is like pushing two magnets together and they repel. The bigs looked good even though Kito kept getting assaulted down low. Benson still ended up in foul trouble which scares me. The one thing that I sort of missed was what happened with number 4 on Rochester and Ilija that everybody got riled up about?

That's what it looked like to me too, nate. Wright was just walking up the floor and we couldn't run the play - so JJ picked up his dribble and had to make an awkward pass to Nelson. Kampe was pissed, but then it looked like he had some positive words when Wright came out of the game at the end. Other than that opening mistake, Wright did look a lot better overall.
I agree that Ilija needs to work with his hands. He's just not strong enough with the ball yet (especially in traffic). Good to see him play enough to get some offensive production, though.
I think everyone got riled up because their #4 pushed one of our guys (I think it was Eackles, bu I'm not sure) after a whistle. So Jerry Souder came over and had the condescending "ref-as-father-figure" conversation with #4 (even patting him gently on the back!) rather than T-ing him up.

I really wouldn't be too worried about Benson getting in foul trouble this game, only because the refs called A LOT of fouls yesterday. It got pretty annoying, I just wanted them to let both sides play.
It was also nice seeing Ilija working down low getting some buckets instead of trying to drain 3 balls. Its evident that he is working hard to Americanize his game. As for his hands, well you either have good hands or you dont, and he doesn't.

They did call a lot of fouls but they did down low cause they were all over Benson, Kampe started shouting "Todd What's going on down there?" He was super pissed at the refs at some of the calls. That was the best Rochester team that I have seen come into the O'Rena.

Overall, I was very pleased about this game. Obviously we were expected to blow them out, and we did that. We were only up I think it was 11 at half time which was a little scary but we ended up winning by 34 and that's good enough for me. I was relieved to see Larry make a few threes and I loved Will Hudson and Benson dominating down low. I actually thought Hudson had an even better game but they both did really well. JJ had a really quiet game, not a bad game, but a quiet game. I was also really really happy to see us making a good majority of our foul shots, including Derrick Nelson.
My only concern with this game was seeing Benson grabbing balls over other players. It seemed like he was rebounding based on his size matchup on not by boxing out, and if he does this against nearly any other team he's gonna be getting out-rebounded. He is really tall and has some good moves, but he needs to play more physical or he will continue to get pushed around. He plays for the shot block and that gets him in foul trouble often. That being said I'm sure Kampe is pounding him on that and I expect to see him improve throughout the seaosn.
