Paul Phillips, who pitched for OU and was drafted in the 9th round of the MLB draft a few years ago, is pitching for the AAA Durham Bulls in the Tampa Bay Rays organization. Last night in their playoff elimination game, Phillips started and got the win, giving up only 2 hits and a walk while striking out 6 in five shutout innings.
Phillips' regular season numbers in the minors this year (playoff stats not included):
* Montgomery (AA): 5-2, 3.98 ERA, 55 K's and 16 BB in 61 IP. * Durham (AAA): 1-0, 1.69 ERA, 13 K's and 0 BB in 10.2 IP.
Would be great to see Phillips take the next step and get to the majors next year.

Phillips gets the start again tonight for Durham in the International League finals in a win-or-go-home situation. Like their previous playoff series, Durham is putting Phillips on the mound in an elimination game. Fingers crossed for another great outing.

Well, the postseason magic wore off for Paul Phillips last night. He gave up 4 runs in 1 1/3 innings and got the loss (Durham pitchers continued getting shelled after Phillips left the game, ultimately giving up 9 more runs and losing 13-2). No Governor's Cup for Durham this year, but overall it was a pretty decent season for Phillips.
