Using the parlance of our sport, I'm very glad I took a visit to Oakland late in the signing period. When I was a high school senior, I had all but determined that EMU would be my future college. Their Admissions office even sent me some free basketball tickets. I remember distinctly driving down to Ypsi on a winter night to watch the Eagles face off against the Rockets of Toledo. My step-brother and I wandered all around the Convocation Center. All I remember was seeing George Gervin's number in the rafters. Being an avid though young basketball fan, I knew of the man but did not know he went to Eastern Michigan. For whatever reason, that was one reason I thought I would go to that school. My step-brother ended up choosing EMU, and someone, someway, I decided very late in my senior year to take a tour of Oakland. I never looked back. And I'm fairly glad I haven't. Now, who knows, maybe some high school kid will come to Oakland's campus and see Keith Benson's number and name "in the rafters" ("on the walls) and think, "Wow...he went HERE!" Personal anecdotes aside, it's gotta be tough being an EMU proponent right now. Sports are an incredibly tough thing to cut out, but perhaps the admins shouldn't be so stubborn about making cut backs.

Great story, B&G. I have friends who work at EMU and are really disillusioned with just about everything there. I honestly hope things turn around. I just wish there were easier solutions.
