I was quite saddened to read this article today from the Kansas City Star about hoops in Kansas City, and there is not a single mention of UMKC. www.kansascity.com/2010/11/03/2390906/hoops-may-be-trumped-by-football.htmlHere is my favorite set of lines: Well, the league lost seven first-round picks to the NBA and is set to be even better this year, mostly behind the strength of Kansas City’s three schools. Kansas and Kansas State are each serious national-title contenders. [...] Missouri has its highest preseason rank in seven years I know UMKC hasn't been a hoops hotbed of late, and that the school could have been mentioned if it had some sort of excitement surrounding its upcoming season, but still. To say that the city has "three schools" and not even bring up the only basketball team that plays in KC is pretty harsh. But that is life in The Summit League. More than geography, academic profile, convenience, etc, this conference is brought together by the fact that each school (no Dakotas) plays in a state, region, or city where they're schools in the shadows.

Boy that made me sad. The guy who wrote that is a Missouri version of a Wal-Mart Wolverine

That is a truly moronic article on a number of levels. As one of the reader comments states, "This story was written by a fifth grader, or so it seems."
But the saddest thing is that none of the reader comments mention UMKC either. The 'Roos appear to be not only in the shadows, but completely invisible on the local level.
