Dropbox sounds cool, but who says it was me who uploaded the clips? One of the lasting legacies of this game might be that whole women's ball mix up. Yahoo! Sports blogger Jeff Eisenberg already picked it up on his Twitter (perhaps a story will follow, this is right in line with the blog's content model): Oakland had a 15-6 lead over Illinois tonight when guard Travis Bader complained the ball felt light. Turned out it was a women's ball.
Refs replaced it with a men's ball and Illinois rallied for a 74-63 win. Here's what Oakland guard Reggie Hamilton told me about the mix-up:
Reggie Hamilton: "Going into a game the last thing you worry about is playing with a women's ball. We didn't even realize it at first."
Reggie Hamilton: "At first it was working in our favor. Illinois wasn't making that many shots ... Maybe they should have kept it."

I will definitely be waiting to hear what that d bag writes on Illinois' SB Nation blog. I feel so bad giving that arrogant jerk a hit, but I really hope that he came down off his pedestal and give OU some props for how they fought tonight.
I'm not expecting anything though, since he is a slappy of a big 6 conference. Those people know nothing but their own greatness.

There is a huge difference between that Illinois SBNation guy (Joe Kutsunis) and some bloggers from our other high major opponents who are actual basketball fans and students of the game. A lot of folks from WVU and Purdue had no problem giving Oakland respect, which included doing their homework on the Grizzlies, even when they were convinced that their team would win.
Eli Linton (from RTC) > Joe Kutsunis. That's bad.

Apparently we are the Grizzles. That is just ridiculous that he can't read or talk. First off, if you are an announcer, broadcaster, or anchor you should know something about the game you are covering. It is quite funny to hear how absurd it sounds though. Anyways, I wonder how these officials feel after not noticing the ball until 7 minutes in the game, and doing something about it.

I do not advise going the Illinois board. Waste of time.
I hate fans of Big Ten teams so. much.

I do not advise going the Illinois board. Waste of time. I hate fans of Big Ten teams so. much. In all fairness, I have found Purdue fans to generally be pretty decent, knowledgeable fans.... both from the OU game and also, being an MSU fan, from the games between MSU and Purdue.

As expected, The Dagger has a full story on the women's ball: rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/blog/the_dagger/post/Illinois-and-Oakland-played-seven-minutes-using-?urn=ncaab-293522I am particularly fond of this quote by Reggie Hamilton at the end: "If you look at the game, we still had the lead going into halftime even with the men's ball," Hamilton said. "Even if we go out there and shoot with golf balls or tennis balls, we just got to make sure we're playing Oakland basketball and we'll be fine." Really like that he tried to make this about more than the basketball...and I applaud Eisenberg for including it. ESPN's College Basketball Nation picked it up as well but it has an Illinois focus. espn.go.com/blog/collegebasketballnation/post/_/id/19593/illinois-brought-its-womens-ball-tooKyle Whelliston chimed in: And Illinois and Oakland played for seven minutes with a women's basketball, and the G'Grizzlies were up by nine when they stopped. We've been reading the jokes about this all morning and wonder how many of these people would be willing to tell 6-foot-11 Keith Benson to his face that he's some kind of girl. Go ahead, I dare you. Rush The Court featured it as well: Your Watercooler Moment. Playing with a women’s ball in Illinois. Coach K might have dominated the mainstream college basketball media’s attention tonight, but the Twitter-verse was dominated by the strange situation in Illinois where the Fighting Illini and Oakland Golden Grizzlies played the first seven minutes of their game with a women’s basketball before Mike Tisdale noticed that something felt wrong and pointed it out to the official who switched the ball. Having dealt with that the Fighting Illini rallied from down nine early to defeat a tough Golden Grizzlies team by a score of 74-63. Although we would like to be able to attribute the Golden Grizzlies early success to playing with a women’s ball (they outscored Illinois 15-6 while playing with the women’s ball and were outscored 68-48 with the men’s basketball) that would be selling their effort short as they led the #16 team in the country until there were 15 minutes left in the game. Demetri McCamey scored nine points in 62 seconds to give Bruce Weber’s squad a quick seven-point lead, which they never relinquished after that point. Like I said, lasting legacy of the game. The news guys eat this stuff up.

The game will reair tonight on the actual Big Ten Network at 5pm. IUPUI plays Ohio State after that at 7pm - good chance to catch two future opponents. ALSO: How is this not a CHARGE?!?!
