While this will definitely be one of the most intriguing NCAA matchups, I can't help but feel this matchup is a bit of a slap in the face by the tournament selection committee. They setup the number 1 ranked mid-major program against the mid-major program that almost went all the way last year (and is also number 6 in the mid-major poll). It almost seems like they were worried both of these teams could go far again the tourney so they had them play each other. Id assume both of these teams would rather have a shot at taking down a high-major than a fellow mid-major elite. This matchup reminds me of two years ago in NCAA football when the bcs committee put undefeated Boise st in a bowl game against undefeated tcu just because they were both non-bcs schools. I was hoping to root on ODU and Butler in the tourney, but now I can only root for one. Am I alone in feeling this way?

Great thoughts, sir. I agree as well. It stinks. Also George Mason got jobbed too. ODU and GMU stood the best chance of making a run but that was more based on them getting a 6, 7, or 10 seed. Actually the 8 and 9 seeds are screwed. This is a really analytical piece that takes too long to get through, but if you just look at the graphs you'll get a sense of how unreal it is that 10,11,12,etc seeds actually have a better chance of advancing into the Sweet Sixteen every year than 8/9. fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/03/15/when-15th-is-better-than-8th-the-math-shows-the-bracket-is-backward/

What a game! I feel so bad for ODU because they deserved a chance to upset a power six school in my mind, not a cannibalization game with a fellow mid-major. But Matt Howard...man. Senior playing with some fire. Congrats to Butler. Hopefully they can do what we could not last year...BEAT PITT.
