Got a chance to watch the game on DVR. Benson looked pretty confident on the court, and his chemistry with teammates seemed good as well. Very proud of his performance, although the announcers (including fellow DCD alum Chris Webber) didn't give him enough attention. Still, you can't deny the stat line. Hopefully having Danny Ferry in the Atlanta GM seat now means Benson will get an honest chance this year. If that happens, he should definitely make the squad this fall.

Thanks for the comments Germane. I admit I was a little perturbed that you chose to share the most negative opinion of Michael Cunningham, writer for the Atlanta Constitution, instead of the plans of the GM Danny Ferry in this post that preceded his dismissal of Kito. www.ajc.com/sports/hawks-developing-younger-players-1476055.html#.T_2JKvwQlSA.emailIt is a shame that people have to hate on a player in advance of his play. Cunningham doesn't have to turn the fans against Kito when they can see him up close and personal in 5 games for themselves. What's up with that? I will be curious to see what he writes tomorrow. Also, please notice that Kito was given second billing in the following article to 1st round draft pick Jenkins even though he gave 19 points in 19 minutes compared to Jenkins' 19 points in 25 minutes. Benson also got the best efficiency rating for both teams -- +25. Jenkins' efficiency rating was +8 in comparison. Benson also got 6 rebounds, 1 block and 1 assist. Jenkins got 4 assists. atlanta.sbnation.com/atlanta-hawks/2012/7/13/3158036/john-jenkinsEven though the conventional wisdom is that they will find you wherever you are, the raves that Jenkins is getting show that the system wants to defend itself. The player who is not crowned early has an uphill climb up the mountain -- even when they perform. Fortunately, Benson doesn't seem to read his press clippings or listen to the commentators. Good observation about Chris Webber. He acts like he doesn't even know Benson -- Country Day and state of Michigan connection. Benson has seen this movie before. Fortunately, he isn't listening. However, we should all be concerned about the silence of the commentators. I thought the NBA was stat driven. It might behoove some of the Oakland faithful to speak out in Atlanta in the comment section to some of these articles. instead of sharing them like they are gospel.

I know it must be tough for those close to Benson to read critical comments in the press, so I guess I get where you're coming from. Fortunately, Benson's play on the court obviously speaks much more loudly than the speculations of a blogger or the lack of attention given by TV commentators in a summer league game (although that lack of attention was basically inexcusable). As you know, a game like Benson had yesterday is also much more effective in shaping public perception than any defensive remarks Oakland fans might post in the AJC comments section. I think every Oakland fan wants nothing more than for Benson to have a long and successful NBA career - starting this season - so we're all on the same side here, right?

Kito's play will do the talking itself.

Yes, we are all on the same side. Even with Jeremy Lin, it took several games before they would recognize his talent. Basketball has a coronation system. They are very reluctant to crown late comers. It is a very mercurial system by which recognition and contracts are given.

Good to see that Benson was tabbed as one of six "studs" from the first day of the Las Vegas summer league: www.hoopsworld.com/las-vegas-summer-league-day-one-studs-dudsKeith Benson, Atlanta Hawks – Benson’s 19 points on 9-12 shooting led the Hawks to their 102-82 blowout win over the Washington Wizards. Benson was able to score in the post against Washington, making them pay every time he got position down low. John Jenkins was impressive as well, chipping in 19 points of his own. However, Benson cleaned the glass and defended well, which is why he makes the list of studs.

And at the half in tonight's game, with the Hawks losing to the Spurs 45-39, Benson is again leading Atlanta in scoring with 9 (on 4-6 shooting). Hoping for a big second half...

Hawks lost 82-76, but Benson led Atlanta in scoring with 20 points (on 9-13 from the field, to go along with 6 boards and a block). The announcers could've focused on Benson a little more, but at least Rick Mahorn was willing to mention him. They also had a nice little spot coming out of a commercial break midway through the second half that focused on Benson scoring.
Two games in a row with Kito leading the team. That's tough to ignore.

Since nobody has posted it yet, Kito had 10 pts, 10 rebs, 1 ast, 1 stl, 1 blk in a blowout loss against the Celtics. The Celtics Summer League team could probably post as many wins as the Bobcats did last season. They are stacked all the way around. It was never much of a game.
