I hope it's that he's going to the Celtics. They'd be a perfect fit. Naaah. They already have Darko. Also, I hate the Celtics.

Sorry for the tease. I was told that everything would be announced after the draft. It turns out that trades won't be announced until Monday morning. I don't want to tell what I've been told because it is only based upon a 3 team verbal commitment. I've seen that movie before and I didn't like the ending.
I will get back with you on Monday. But, I will tell you that it is a D-League trade that will give Benson a better chance to showcase his talents and move up. If you don't know somebody who knows somebody, you keep running into blank walls and you don't know why. Politics.

I hope Kito gets his chance. The opportunities seem to be there (from a mostly outsider view mind you) but he never seems to be in the right place at the right time. Or better, his agent never seems to get him in the right place. OU nations pulling for him still. We know he can play, but man, he's gotta prove it to the world.

Okay guysl The trade went through. It will be announced on Monday morning. Kito has been traded from Sioux Falls to the Erie Bayhawks in Pennsylvania. Gene Cross is the new head coach. He coached Kito last summer at the Atlanta Hawks' Summer League. He also worked with him in June at the D-League elite mini-camp in Chicago. Allan Houston is the GM for the Erie Bayhawks. More importantly, he is the Assistant GM for the New York Knicks! The Bayhawks thought they had Kito last February and the Sioux Falls coach swooped in and took him. Now Erie has come full circle. They created a 3 team trade and got his rights. He departs for Erie on Tuesday. Jeremy Lin got called up to the Knicks from the Erie Bayhawks and got his opportunity with the Knicks. Both the coach and the GM are excited about having Kito. This might be the open door he has been preparing for. This summer, there was some buzz regarding Kito being a perfect fit for the Knicks. See the article on the link below: sports.gather.com/viewArticle.action?articleId=281474981510619He can't ask for a better combination with a coach who wants him and a GM who is a part of the New York brain trust. We all know that Kito can play. What we need is someone who will part the Red Sea for him to get a chance to show it.

Anything that gets Benson closer to a genuine shot at the NBA is a good thing. And although Gene Cross had a tough time as head coach of Toledo, he had a reputation as a good recruiter - which means he should have no problem recognizing talent like Benson's. Let's hope for a very productive (and short) stay in Erie for Benson.

This is what we have been waiting for. Go to the NBA D-League web site. Kito is featured on the Home Page. He is also featured as one of the Top Prospects in Transit, I quote:
After manning the paint in Sioux Falls last year, Keith Benson will take his talents to Erie after being traded along with Nick Covington, for Mike Davis, the No. 5 pick in the 2012 NBA D-League Draft.
Why is it Good for Him: One of the stars of NBA Summer League, Benson appeared like he could contribute on the NBA level right now when playing against other NBA competition in Las Vegas. He'll now get to audition for a team -- the New York Knicks, Erie's single affiliate -- that is full of front court players older than even your finest whiskeys. The potential for any or all of Kurt Thomas (40 years old), Marcus Camby (38) or Rasheed Wallace (38) to break down could open up a door for Benson.

It will be interesting to see Kito's role with Henry Sims on that Erie team. Will he play the 4, to Sims' 5? I have to imagine both would start, and if that is the case then it seems that Sims would start at Center. This would give Kito a chance to show off his potential as a 4, which would likely be his NBA position.
