phearthephoenix.webs.com/apps/blog/entries/show/43007114-horizon-league-expansion-who-s-next-FWIW, CSU AD named four expansion targets: Northern Kentucky, Belmont, Murray State, and Lipscomb. This list paints a picture. It's safe to assume that NKU will join whenever we ask them to. Between geography and level of comptition, we're just a better conference for them. They're new to D1, but by all accounts have a well-run athletics department and many people in their athletics department have Horizon League ties. Whereas we were expected to start in the middle of the conference and eventually work our way up, they're expected to start at the bottom and grow. Belmont is already an affiliate member in one sport and playing a number of games against Horizon opponents in most of their other sports. This is presumed to be a test run for their admittance into the league, and it seems to be working out well, so if we've really narrowed the search to four, it seems that Belmont is happy and soon to be ready to join full-time. Murray State and Lipscomb.... I think here, we're looking at one spot for somebody to be Belmont's travel partner. Murray State is the top choice and Lipscomb is the back-up plan if we can't get them but really need somebody to pair up with Belmont. It may be possible that Belmont's only willing to join if we go to travel partners to accommodate their longer travels.

If what Coach Waters said is to be believed, then the "definite" team will be NKU. They will be going into their last season of transition; have excellent facilities (will be adding seats for baseball); brings in the Cincy market; they have improved their bb program in both quality of play and recruiting.

Wow...Just noticed that Valpo beat Murray State on November the 29th in Nashville, by 35 points. Since then...Murray State has won 24 games in a row.
I wonder how Murray would fare in the Horizon for a full season.

I think the comment about it being within bussing distance signals it's most likely NKU Yeah, that seems most likely scenario. Just as long as it isn't the Indiana alphabet schools.

Had to share. From the Merch board and one of their most blind poster upbasketballfan. This guy is always good for a laugh:
"It looks like the fan base of most members of the HL are not satisfied with HL and the direction it is and has taken. Butler and Loyola both took off at their first opportunity and it looks like a majority of the other HL members would love to do the same. The last one in this league to turn the lights off might very well be trapped with no place to go. We have had such poor direction in the core of our Athletic Dept. for so long that it is starting to rot the rest of this apple and the sad part is some of us are starting to be satisfied with the sweet smell of the stench. I kind of look at OU and the IPUies as sort of fruit flies that some loyal Titans have or are trying to convince themselves they are fun to swat. Well if they were in your home would you allow them to stay?"
Just have to love the condescending attitude towards a school they're pretty consistently losing to including the Metro Series. Whoops. More like someone swinging at a fruit fly, hitting themselves in the face as they miss, and sitting on the ground for an hour after reassessing their life where they realize they aren't even able to beat a fly anymore.

They will always be like that. They also believe they are worthy of joining the big east or the A10. It's funny, cause our first 2 years in the horizon we have done better than half of the league, next year will be us and valpo. They think they're so much better than everyone but they consistently lose. One of them states that we're the only ones happy to be in the horizon. I don't think that's true, I think it's more that we understand that you have to win at the level you're at to move up in conference. None of us would be absurd enough to suggest we move to the B1G, as they think that they should move to the big east
