Most (if not all) of the posters on that board are delusional old men who are severely out of touch with reality and their schools place in the modern day basketball world. They think because they have history they are privileged to have their pick of whatever league they want to be in. I USED to get bothered with a lot of their disparaging remarks toward our school and program in the past. Now all I do is just laugh at their insecurity and loss of touch with reality.

Sorry to double post, but it's irritating watching every team complain about the conference. No it's not great, but it's where you are, and if you want to raise the profile of the conference then start winning and stop bit**ing. A YSU poster said the league is mediocre; like they have any space to talk. Our OOC record is awful, but at least it's really tough teams, a lot of HL teams schedule mediocre and still have an awful record. So I wish they'd stop complaining about the conference, because unless they start winning they're the ones contributing to the conference being mediocre.

It's not EVERY team darthnater19. You noticed he didn't have anything from either UIC board. We at UIC understand the fact that until you do something and do it consistently, you sound rather foolish and presumptuous. Why would we complain about being in the HL and our team sucks? Those that talk about this League being beneath them have done absolutely NOTHING to warrant being invited by another conference. Valparaiso? They've gone to the Dance the past couple years, but so has 30 other conference winners. How many tourney games have they won? How many Sweet 16s? When was the last time UD has gone to the Dance. When RayMac was there. Not ONE TEAM in this league has any right to complain about wanting to jump ship until they get their own house (or program) on a consistently winning path. Do what Butler did and then complain. Do what Loyola did by "LUCKING UP", then complain. Until then SHUT UP, SUPPORT YOUR PROGRAM, AND DEMAND PROGRAM EXCELLENCE!
And by the way, I think NKU would be a good investment in the HL. They might weigh the league done initially, but their potential is huge. They've got the facilities and seemingly are willing to spend the money. I also still believe that Belmont will come along as well. The League has to figure out a traveling partner. Will Murray State be willing to forego being a big fish in a small pond? Time will tell.
Conference rankings are almost solely based on W/L records vs D1 competition in OOC games. Conference games are a wash because for every W there is a L. Before you start taking shots at the rest of the HL you might want to play some OOC games you can win, because so far Oakland hasn't done jack Sh*t for this conference except bring it down. You are a combined 6-20 the last 2 years vs D1 competition. For christ sake, UIC only had 1 less OOC win than you guys and they canned their coach.
We've brought down the conference? You really think our crazy OOC scheduling, which was well known well before we were members of this league as we use it pay for the amenities our athletes have come to expect and we use in recruiting, is what has brought the league down? That's the problem, well before multiple teams that seem to be competing for last place, multiple players transferring out to high majors or even a school that can't keep itself academically eligible to even possibly do something in the post season? We should schedule almost all home game cupcakes in OOC so we too can be 22 and something, and either still have to win the tournament as this league isn't getting an at large or play in a useless postseason tournament? Guess what, having that record wouldn't change a damn thing for us. We could be 0-16 going into conference schedule and still have just the same chance of making the tournament. It's easy to point fingers about someone else's OOC schedule. Should we play Urbana to feel good about ourselves too? Ohio Dominican? What did you guys learn about yourself in that game? Clearly nothing. And certainly not how to keep players out of trouble (Sledge) or when to let a player know he should hang it up and look out for his best in the future and avoid a 4th concussion.
Once again it's shown. Biggest problem with this league is it's fans that are real quick to check out someone else's house to avoid the piles of garbage in their own.

I didn't act like Oakland has been lighting the world on fire while the other teams have been dragging the HL down. I know Oakland needs to be better in OOC, and it seems our AD is all for lightening up the schedule. I'm pointing out that it seems like every HL team is complaining about the quality of the league, but fail to realize that they are contributing. Going .500 against average to low mid-majors and then acting like you would be too good for the HL if they added NKU is ridiculous.
Bottom line: don't complain about being in the HL unless your team starts winning while every other team continues losing.
Thanks Chuck, I wish UIC the best of luck next season. Hopefully the coaching change will spark something there, because if winning picks up, I can't imagine you lacking for talented recruits, given your great location.

Teams added to the HL in the past decade: us and Valpo. Teams expected to be at the top of the conference this season: us and Valpo.
Does this conference have a lower profile than it did 10 years ago? Yup. Is it because of "inferior" teams being brought in? Nope. Is it because the top teams in the league wanted to get the f*ck away from the likes of Mercy dragging them down? Possibly.
That's all there is to say about that.

They've gone to the Dance the past couple years, but so has 30 other conference winners. Winning 3 out of the last 4 season titles is pretty decent. Have a good chance to get another one next year if their old mid-con friend doesn't get in the way : ).

Funny how the 2 most recent additions seem to be having the most athletic success. Not just talking basketball either. Maybe it's time for the teams that do the most whining about wanting to leave (Looking at you Mercy!) to actually win something and raise their profile and the leagues. Maybe another old mid con/Summit team wouldn't be the worst thing. Those teams are winning.

My point is, for the HL to get any real respect among the other leagues and recruits, is not to just get to the Dance, but to win a game or two...or three! Nobody has done that since Butler's back-to-back. I still believe in this League. I posted a rant on the HL message board blaming the Board Of Directors, not LeCrone for the HL's slowfulness.
